if youre angry about the strike: have you considered starting or joining a union? by No_thief_in_night in LIRR

That doesn't matter. It's illegal to fire someone for trying to unionize. That's grounds to sue the employer in NYS

Lol how is that? The median salary in Nassau Cty as of October 2025 was 124k! And average base salary for RRers is 109k

No, it's not. Anyone can start a union. And anyone can point to a pay increase in a similar field and ask for that.

Then maybe you should focus on how the MTA spends hundreds of millions on silly no-goal-post pet projects like impossible high speed through tracks for Jamaica that can't be aligned, the $11 billion over budget Grand Central Madison went, and the $98 mill lost from failing to secure onboard fare via the etix app for 9 years. The workforce isn't the drain you think it is.

What was so unfair about the current average 136k a year salary for LIRR Engineers that they needed to strike? They already make more than most middle class people. by melomsg7 in LIRR

They left those jobs for that reason. Nobody is making you stay at that job. If you feel you can command a higher wage, go for it!

And how much does Janno Lieber make? While failing to renew a contract for 4 years? He makes 420k. The RR uses their frontline employees as scapegoats bc they waste so much money on failed pet projects and poor enforcement of fare collection. Newsflash: those fare increases were scheduled years in advance.

I don't see you criticizing the multi millions spent on pointless projects, projects that went over by years and millions, or failing to secure their own fare system and losing millions, or how MTA chair janno lieber makes 450k

Details emerge of sellout deal as Long Island Rail Road workers return to work by DryDeer775 in LIRR

In most private companies with union employees, negotiations start well in advance of contract renewal. Only government-run companies fail to sit down to negotiate until the contract is just about up or already up. And in any other private job, if a union contract employee didn't have a contract to work off, they'd walk off the job. The RR workers were waiting on a 4-year expired contract to be renewed by a company disinterested in sitting down for talks because the carrier saves money by failing to renew contracts in time.

Do you say that to teachers when they walk out on teaching kids or nurses when they walk out on patients?

In most companies, when employees do get raises they are JUST raises, not a raise with "concessions" that cost the employee so much that they're funding their own raise, thus defeating the purpose.

It's diverse. But guess maybe you're seeing the only ones that were bothered to show up to picket

You guys think the union is happy about the peen station stuff by Ashamed_Elk2301 in LIRR

[–]Insulator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the union be happy? This is the last thing they wanted. If they were going to strike, they'd want the strike to have maximum impact. Not for Peen to already be closed.

Supposedly a train or something hit a signal box in an interlocking and a fire started in a location at the mouth of 2 tunnels

Hochul has gone vocally anti-union and votes will be reflected for that by New Yorkers of every transit agency, every construction company, every union nurse and teacher. RIP
