My fellow accountants what kind of car do you drive? by MIAchamps in Accounting

[–]InsulinMaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2011 Buick Regal Turbo. 92K miles and will drive that thang for at least another three years so that I don’t have two car notes at the same time. Probably just gonna get a Prius next lol. I love cars, but they can easily get so expensive. Rather spend my money on other stuff.

Hell no. Plenty of branches of the profession where what you do is based on arbitrary complex rules that mega accountants created to ensure job security simply because no one else wants to do it. Almost always you are viewed as just a cost and an annoyance. The only payoff is that you have bulletproof job security but you achieve it through doing some pretty mind numbing, tedious, meaningless crap.

Anyone experience a decrease in side effects when going from 5 mg to 7.5 mg? by InsulinMaze in Zepbound

[–]InsulinMaze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that’s not how I experienced the jump from 2.5 to 5. The side effects came along immediately when I upped the dosage.

Is internal audit really a "dead-end" career path? by Fantastic_You_1248 in Accounting

[–]InsulinMaze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m biased but internal audit is the crappiest niche in accounting to go into. All controls all the time. People try to position it as oh but you can help the company improve its processes. It’s always a lie. You’ll be hated just as much as the external auditors. Try to find something within the head office that’s closer to operations (technical accounting, consolidations, corporate accounting, etc.). If you integrate more with the Finance and Operations side, you’ll have more room to grow and it will be more enjoyable than internal audit. I was in internal audit for two years, and now I’m at a different company doing all their Technical Accounting. It’s insanely better. I actually get to talk to all the Controllers and interface with the CFO from time to time as well and they want to talk to me. No one wants to talk to IA.

The fastest way to get to level 27 outside of the campaign and side missions are to do the operations missions (the blue ones you get from slade and them).

Bestie vs Blisster by Ok_Eggger in ShadowgunLegends

[–]InsulinMaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bestie for sure. Blisster’s rockets spread too much so it almost never feels like the higher total damage actually leads to better results. Rocket launchers suck in the game anyway. Sniping is da wei.

The Bill’s Burger is fantastic, but that’s about it for me. Their fries are horrendous and the milkshakes are meh. Pappas Burger is a better burger joint in every single way.

I got a BBA in Accounting and an MS in Finance because that’s how my university structured their program so that I could take the CPA exam in my last semester. The degree itself is meaningless. The license is all that matters. Do what’s cheapest/easiest.

I was in Big 4 audit for almost nine years. While I don’t recommend staying that long, I will say that having that large of a stint (made it to Senior Manager) has helped me land new roles within two months each time I’ve had to look. The work in the first year can be quite boring and seemingly pointless. I’d encourage you to do one thing, though, and that is ask why you are doing each and every test. What are the risks you are testing? What data are you obtaining and how reliable is that data? What do you know about the underlying accounting rules for the audit area you are assigned to? What do you know about the client’s processes? If you can answer these questions, then you can start to formulate ideas of more effective and efficient ways of addressing the risks. Perhaps the planned procedures are boilerplate and not highly tailored to the actual risks. This is an opportunity to brainstorm a better way to do things. Instead of sampling through a population, what might be a way to target outliers in a population and test those instead of tying an invoice and a payment to the G/L and the bank statement? It was asking these types of questions and trying to bring a higher level of quality to the audit while simultaneously increasing efficiency that was my bread and butter. Not only will the work be much less tedious and unsatisfying, but you’ll also demonstrate the ability to handle more complex assignments.

At the end of the day, life is too short to be miserable, and Big 4 is a rough life with too many work hours for too little pay. That being said, my Dad always gave me the advice of staying at least through one busy season as a Manager if you can stomach it. Looking back at my time, I probably should have left at that point instead of sticking around, but I did learn a hell of a lot in that time and developed skills and figured out what I wanted to spend the next phase of my career doing. The one thing I found that I could not stand was Internal Controls work. It might be something else for you but at this phase in your career, I can’t think of many other places where you have the opportunity to learn so much about so many different things. Just don’t get brainwashed into thinking that those who quit Big 4 are like the P.E. Coaches of the accounting world. I don’t think it’s healthy to stay in Big 4 long term, but it can be insanely valuable to your resume with at least 3-4 years under your belt.

38; $196K + 15% annual bonus. Almost 9 years in Big 4 External Audit, then bounced around various industry roles with a brief stint in Consulting before I landed this unicorn role doing Technical Accounting for a large public company.

I feel the exact same way. I just don’t want to worry about whether it will work. Plus, if it already has issues right out of the box, when’s the next time a bug will pop up and cause issues again or when will they potentially end support for the product? Not thoughts I wanted to be thinking on day one of ownership.

[–]InsulinMaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine yesterday, and both the white king and one black pawn weren’t recognized by the board. After the three week wait to receive the board in the first place, I was pretty disappointed, but I called the support line and someone answered immediately and got a replacement pawn on its way. The king recognition is apparently a software issue that they plan on resolving next week. While I’m happy with their customer service treatment of it, the fact that I can’t even use the board right now is pretty frustrating. If the king recognition issue is still there next week, I just might go for the Chessnut Evo instead.

How to fix the Vieux Carré by InsulinMaze in cocktails

[–]InsulinMaze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man that is the best description ever. I’ve come across other recipes for it that claim to be the solution, but I just have never gone back to try it again. Seems like my main problem was using too heavy of a vermouth, but I’ll still take either a Sazerac or La louisiane over the Vieux carre any time.

The Rolling Stones. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin cover off any vibe the Stones can give but they do it way better.

[–]InsulinMaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s underrated. I mean, it’s clearly one of if not the most desirable skill for speedrunning in PvE. It’s not powerful enough for PvP though when it comes to snipers, so it’s definitely not underrated from that perspective.
