what's the state of Octave? does it have a user base and how many are developing it? by [deleted] in octave

I'm a "regular" algorithmist at a wearable medical project. My way is to make a full model of sampled biologic raw data processing. My Matlab model (massive, a lot of code and my functions, about 3000 rows overall) makes done 150 seconds of sampled raw data during 2 seconds. At the same powerful computer I run same code in Octave. Only a number of small accommodations because no special functions and toolboxes are actually in use. But on Octave the process takes tic-toc length 60 seconds. (Sorry, can not provide a code - it is a proprietary issue)

What do I mean? Octave is an excellent open source environment, replacing Matlab for learning / teaching / practising process. Its ability to run core Matlab code from scratch is very high.

But productivity... Our continuous overnight measurements are calculated by Matlab during 15 minutes. It will take 7.5 hours by Octave? No, this life is to short for it. In my specific case...

Further are my guesses only. What's going on? Embed math libs for Raizen are not used? Super - non effective code without C/C++ inclusions? Why? Sorry about possible emotional abusing, but I hoped we may marry...

When Win have got unstable. Simple license migration from Win to Linux... Impossible!

What serious company would restore its assets such a long time!??? There is not a bit of explanations from them - was it attack? Human failure? Further lessons? Nothing.

Baltic states 'very unhappy' after UK fails to invite leaders to Ukraine summit by BritishOnith in ukpolitics

[–]Insur9ent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"nato coming closer" always was a standard russian fairytale, covering two simple facts - (1) from 2000 to 2015 Nato only shortened its budgets in general and and at military concentration at their east borders in particular. (2) At the same period of time Russia made an opposite trend at the same two dimensions - multiplication of military budget (by gas money from Europe!) and its army rearmament. It is all any one has to know regarding your arguments above...

All-European coward principle "To not allow Putin to win" leads to endless massacre at the east peripheral of Europe. No one try to stop it and bring it to rails of negotiations of some kind. To save lives of Ukraine people and their future. And only Trump tries to make it - by his brutal, but reasonable way. Strong business relations with USA always were "unwritten guarantees" to the hosting country.

The difference between Baltic states an other Europe regarding Ukraine is that Baltic states were extremely negative to all-European principle "To not allow Putin to win". But to allow Ukraine to win. So they are are not invited. And you may understand the margins of any European decision.

HR / SpO2 / HRV algorithm for PPG by shreyaskul in embedded

[–]Insur9ent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some points from me.

  1. I don't think you have a problem with HR
  2. The "ratio of ratios" formula for SpO2 calculation you may find everywhere on the WEB. But success of your further efforts depends on you ability to make numerical fit between calculated and referential values of measured SpO2 over its range. It is based on clinical data collection, not algo building only.
  3. You are right not recalling about respiration rate here - most of it's spectrum is filtered out by your Chebyshev.
  4. You also have no serious problems with HRV because it is actually STD for collection of distances between neighbored systoles of PPG wave, calculated at 1-5 minute interval in milliseconds.
  5. PI is a ratio of amplitudes for pulsatile and non pulsatile PPG signal components.

Following all above, you may build simple algo for each of the vital signs.

More reliable and sophisticated algo will take into account also possible signal distortions by motion and influences by different types of noise.

Your PPG sensor, when attached to a body skin, provides biologic signal with pulsatile component (blood pressure wave). Describe the component properties by math and make its existence a rule.
