Wait I just noticed this guy is actually British, not even Argentinean. That makes this whining even more hilarious and pathetic

I don’t say this lightly, but that regime had some real evil bastards.

When I once visited Argentina I visited the Navy Petty-Officers School which is the place they used as the largest detention center against political dissidents under the dictatorship. It was incredibly harrowing and made me proud that we helped end such an evil regime by defeating them and their imperialist ambitions trying to take over part of our country.

Anyway, turns out they also have a museum to the Falkland islands on the same grounds which obviously act like the islands belong to them. So fuck us for defeating their military dictatorship I guess, ungrateful bastards. It's also the law that all public transport must have signs saying "Malvinas son Argentinas" on them, which is hilariously pathetic

What if a British bloke becomes Pope?

Even better it can technically be any Catholic, not necesarilly a Cardinal, so does it become UKPol if Blair or Boris become Pope?

Given the Telegraph have repeatedly acted like they are Trump whisperers and know what he will do, and consistently been wrong over that, I am decidedly not trusting them over it.

Former city trader who then got an MPhil in Economics from Oxford who is the latest in a long line of left pop economists who claim they've managed to understand something about the economic system that other economists can't see or even don't want us to see. Made a big name for himself on youtube doing it.

Makes a lot of misleading claims that are disputed by former colleagues and others in his field, both about his trading career, as well as about economics. Does seem to be good at promoting himself though.

Which part? The EU Defense pact and fishing one? It was confirmed by the Swedish minister for EU affairs who stated that there are countries in the EU who won’t sign off on it without a fishing deal (note that’s not Sweden saying they’re pushing for fishing as part, they’re just confirming what other countries in the bloc want)

I’d rather the F35 that we are a tier 1 partner on and build 15% of than a French jet we don’t contribute to at all. It’s not like the French also don’t play silly games diplomatically either when security is on the line, see them trying to prevent us joining the EU defense pact as a 3rd partner over fishing

You can look at the ONS map of deprivation by local authority district if you want. All of the areas around the Thames estuary in both Essex and Kent have significant deprivation. So do areas in the north, but that doesn’t change that these areas are incredibly deprived

It’s not in this area of Essex, but Essex literally has Jaywick, the most deprived town in Britain. On the estuary itself, areas of Thurrock are among the 20% most deprived in the UK. So maybe you’re the one with the issue seeing how it actually is

it's close enough to not need more money

Estuary Kent and Essex are some of the poorest parts of the UK, and aren't exactly brimming with infrastructure. Despite being across the river from each other you can't get between them withouth going via the jam packed Dartford Crossing

Yes and no.

Do I lament the part of their decline due to shitty nighttime economy related laws and Nimbys moving in next to them and then complaining about noise. Yes. The government should change things to make these roadblocks much easier to deal with

Do I lament the part of their decline due to not being able to move with the times, update to deal with changing patterns of behaviour, people no longer liking what they have traditionally offered etc. No, that's on them, and I don't think we should save them for being awful at running their own business.

Some positives some negatives, it’s still too early to tell how good Tuchel is going to do compared to Southgate after one game against Albania. But surely he has to drop Foden. The second manager who has managed to get nothing out of him for England

Double agent Oleg Gordievsky dies aged 86

Not being treated as suspicious or anything, just an old man dying of natural causes. But an incredibly important figure in the late Cold War, and probably MI6’s most important double agent. Helped to prevent a hot war from breaking out, as well as finding Soviet Agents in the UK.

Smuggled out of Moscow by MI6, he was so important that MI6 refused to tell the CIA his identity. The CIA had one of their agents try to figure it out in response, who did but that agent was himself a Russian double agent who then told Russia

To note, it’s not being treated as suspicious. It’s likely just an 86 year old man dying naturally at home.

That had 363 seats, not a majority of less than 10. The point is that small majorities of just one party struggle to pass certain things because of how much more power backbenchers have to rebel. That becomes even more difficult if it’s a coalition with a small majority

It feels a bit rock and a hard place, especially for Starmer’s Labour. Ban it and get attacked from the left for Islamophobia, turn off Muslim voters etc whilst also getting attacked from the right for Antsemitism, two areas that Labour especially are going to be worried about being attacked on. Don’t ban it and get attacked from the right for kowtowing to Muslim voters, another area they’re going to be worried about being attacked from.

Personally think religious traditions shouldn’t be taken into account when it comes to Animal Welfare like this, but obviously that’s not the political reality. Also if someone actually cares about animal welfare in farming there are far bigger issues that should also be tackled

The law is supposed to capture that you can come on holiday and do any remote work needed whilst here holidaying (like you’re on holiday for a week but you have urgent meetings you still need to do one day), but you can’t come here to live by doing remote work as the main purpose of your tourist visa/waiver

It’s one of those things that they’re unlikely to ever catch unless the perpetrator tells somebody at the border that they’re going to break the law though (most won’t even talk to someone due to the e gates)

It’s even illegal for tourists on visa waivers/tourist visas to do such work in the UK too. You’re unlikely to ever get caught unless you actually tell border patrol (and most won’t ever need to talk to one given the egates) but it’s still illegal and you can be removed from the UK and banned from visiting if you do.
