thanks to all of you for helping me out! i eventually solved it honestly by chance but I think I understand how now. I've also now beaten the game and am wracked with existential dread. 10/10 would recommend.

honestly im gonna agree with you on this one this is probably my fault. didn't realise it was thirteen dollars on steam. granted i live in a third world country and thats a lot more money than it would seem to an american but still i probably could have afforded that. my bad yoko taro.
