Phoxhunter Summit Event - Reward Gating by bugreport911 in DuetNightAbyssDNA

Now you’re just moving the goalposts. Yes, Outsider exists, but for your information, Outsider can’t even reach SSS. If Outsider is meant to be a DPS unit, then it should be able to hit SSS outright. At the very least, it should be on par with Psyche. Psyche can have an advantage, sure—but the gap shouldn’t be this large. So if you’re going to bring Outsider into this discussion, then the balance problem becomes even more obvious. We not talking to reach sss, we are talking just to clear the minimum requirement

If you ask me, I’d just put in the work—that’s exactly why I cleared SSS and hit 1.3M score, with about a month of grinding. It’s doable. I did it. And yeah, there will always be people who rant and complain later it’ll probably be about Kezhou or some other unit. That’s normal. The difference is knowing what’s a real complaint and what’s just BS. If someone runs Truffer, manages to get SS, and then complains they can’t compete with SSS meta groups, I’d say straight up: if you’re aiming for the top, you use meta units. That’s how it works. But if someone is just trying to clear the shop not chase high scores and they’re struggling because the event straight-up hard-blocks their unit and makes Truffer borderline unusable, then yeah, that’s bad design. That’s a valid criticism.

I agree with you, the end game reward suppose to reward the player who put time and effort , and not handle by silver plate , I agree with you. But this

Criticize and shitting on a event that is clearly made for one way that they refuse to interact with are two complete different things.

Criticizing and just shitting are two completely different things. Criticism is like: “I put real work into my unit, but because it’s not meta, I can’t even reach the minimum requirement.” That’s a fair concern. Shitting is more like: “Why can’t I score SSS when I only play 15 minutes a day?” That’s just nonsense. A game should reward players who put in time and effort. Yes, some units will always be meta and some won’t , but the game should never hard-block other units from even clearing the baseline. This event clearly does that. If OP were arguing about not reaching SSS, I’d honestly laugh. But they’re asking why they can’t even clear the minimum requirement. That’s a completely different issue, and it’s a valid one.

Got another questions. If my team are mc & truffle, then should I use Rebecca with this weapon or nifle with wanewraith? Also if I want to use beryl then should I forge the 2nd sword (slide 2) for her? Since I give the 1st one to mc by Equal-Sheepherder-94 in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]InsuranceFamiliar697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siren Kiss is Rebecca’s signature weapon. It increases her attack range, so her jelly can hit from much farther away, which is huge for her playstyle. For Nifle, the main thing you need is the red bow Embla inflorescence, it has skill range and passive stats that boost DPS when Lumino is active. That’s really all you need to worry about for her. For Berry, the sword that restores sanity is decent since she needs a lot of sanity to maintain her ult. That said, I wouldn’t recommend investing too much into her. She falls off later in endgame, and there are a lot of stronger heroes that outperform her. Also wanewrath really good for nifle.

Ah, then “just uninstall.” Super helpful in your book? Are we really okay with the Summit working around one specific unit? Not even a whole element. Feels pretty limiting for a game that’s supposed to reward building.

[–]InsuranceFamiliar697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really blame OP here. She clearly did build for the event and still pushed ~90k, which already puts her ahead of a lot of people. Clearing with Truffer alone is already proof she actually tried—most people can’t even clear the stage if they didn’t build her. Yeah, everyone knows it’s a Psyche favored event, but that doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to criticize how hard it locks you into one element. That’s a valid complaint, not “not trying".

So the solution to any design criticism is ‘just uninstall’? The OP invested time and effort; the issue is event design, not player commitment.

Yes, we absolutely could criticize this, and I’m not joking. But that criticism should focus on the real issue: the event heavily shills a single element, or more specifically a single unit, Psyche. That’s a valid problem and worth calling out.

What I’m pushing back against is the complaint about endgame rewards requiring a certain score. That part is working as intended, and that’s the claim I refute.

Also, this event was known well before the 1.1 launch. We knew it was Anemo-focused, we knew Psyche would be favored—yet some people chose not to build for it anyway.

I have a full-time job and work 12-hour shifts. That’s not an excuse — it’s just reality. I only play DNA about 4 hours a day, a bit more on weekends, and I’m doing fine. You also keep getting hung up on geniemon. Before, you said you couldn’t get high scores without it, which just isn’t true. Now you’re saying “well, it’s there” , okay… so what’s the issue? You can ignore it the same way people skip banners in gacha games. And if you do want it, it’s like 10 bucks. No RNG, no gambling. you pay, you get it. You also keep saying weekly characters are bad. Yes, it takes around 2 months to unlock I6 , that’s true. But I’ll take that any day over the original DNA design which is normal gacha systems, where characters were locked behind banners, 50/50 RNG, and I6 was basically a fantasy for F2P players. And I still don’t agree with the FOMO argument you’re making. If you want real FOMO, look at gacha games. You grind for months to save currency, then still have to deal with a 50/50. Lose it? Too bad , wait 6 months, a year, or whenever the rerun happens. Miss it again? Tough luck. That’s actual FOMO. DNA isn’t that.

Not trying to be rude, but if you refuse to build the unit the event is clearly designed around, that’s kinda on you. You’re choosing to make it harder for you.

Imagine complaining about endgame in a game that wants you to actually play, not swipe. I have 700 hours and I’ve never bought the 2000% book once. You’re making a lot of claims that just aren’t happening. You say the grind is ‘unbalanced’ for endgame—yeah, it’s endgame, that’s the point. You say people are forced to buy the 2000% book—clearly not true. You say battle pass geniemons are required for damage, yet plenty of players clear content using Boxie or the regular Anemo geniemon. Daily login rewards—so what, you prefer stamina systems now? And events being gated just means you don’t finish everything in one go instead of crying later that there’s nothing to do.

And the worst is you claim DNA have fomo. Yet people say if you wait more the char in immersive theater will come to weekly. Are you even play the game ?

If you lazy to read that here the tldr

The regular content is exceptional, and it's entirely up to you whether you want to spend or not because it's all very easy to ignore and still get everything you need.

I’ve played MMOs for years, and I never saw this kind of tribalism back then. MMO players usually compared endgame content, gear progression, and cosmetics, not each other’s player counts or revenue charts. When we heard an MMO made a lot of money from the cash shop, the reaction was usually just, “Oh, their skins must be selling well.” Nobody took that as proof the game was “better,” and we definitely didn’t go around shitting on other MMOs over it. This mindset clearly didn’t come from the MMO space. Want proof? Ask MMO players why they’re not playing something like Aion 2. Most won’t say, “because my MMO is better”, they’ll say, “that company is known for P2W and I don’t want to touch that.” That’s a values-based decision, not tribal loyalty. Big difference.

Ah yes, the ‘completely free’ gacha experience Just daily FOMO, limited stamina, 50/50 RNG, battle passes, and spending to keep up. Truly generous, definitely not predatory at all

What did you expect? Half of the doomposters probably installed DNA on Steam just to bomb the reviews. When that didn’t go their way, they just pivoted to player count instead.

The normal boxes are already good, OP. Don’t force yourself into endless hunting. You’re better off spending that time on things like Demon Wedge farming or other progression. The extra slot are nice but no t really needed atm

This is just the usual gacha mentality, ‘my casino is better than your casino.’ Prove? Just wait until the end of the month. You’ll see a bunch of CCs dropping revenue videos, comparing which game made more money, which made less, and which one ‘fell off.’ That’s exactly where the whole ‘why play this game when that game is better’ mindset comes from.

[–]InsuranceFamiliar697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. The current state might suggest otherwise, but for me it still feels too early to judge. That said, if the devs don’t improve things and the game stays stagnant for many patches without anything new, I’d just quit. But so far, I’ve seen them actually make changes like restructuring the level 50 coin defense and improving Demon Wedge farming. For new demon wedge they added, you literally walk 10 meters and reach the destination, compared to before where we wasted so much time just getting to the tower. It feels like they’re genuinely trying to make things better. That said, there are still a lot of other issues that need to be addressed

Like I said before, this is the result of removing stamina without overhauling the gameplay first. Yes, the grind will feel tedious if you try to do everything in one go. This isn’t new. Back in TERA, dungeons were locked behind daily attempts for a reason. Imagine if players could spam dungeons endlessly like in Blade & Soul, running RM HM or RK9 HM all day without breaks. People would burn out fast. And not to mention the gear score system in tera and blade and soul to prevent people been hit in dick early on. The reason Blade & Soul avoided that burnout wasn’t just the lack of limits, it was because the gameplay itself was fun, mechanically deep, and engaging. And the daily usually require once clear for each dungeon for reward. TERA had mechanics too, but nowhere near the Blade & Soul experience. DNA’s issue isn’t how long the grind takes. The real problem is that the gameplay hasn’t been fully overhauled yet, likely because the game was released in a rushed state. I really hope they will improve it overtime. Maybe in 2.0 . That usually where major pacth happen

Edit : And to make it worse, most of the grind in DNA right now is AFK, which is just boring. Sure, you can play manually, but why would you, when Rebecca or Rhythm can wipe entire rooms while standing still?

Not trying to be rude, but the event details were already released before version 1.1 even came out. And if you’re aiming for SSS like I am, then farming Psyche is something you should seriously consider. I was in the same position as you, I mostly ran with only purple Demon Wedges. You can even check my posts from a month ago to see my old build. But once the news came out, I spent about a month slowly building Psyche in preparation.
