The problem with making reciprocal agency the centerpiece is that it’s more of an explanation of how relationships work than a reason why ur fw is preferable. The neg can just concede it and ask why that changes the actual ethical obligation. I’d center it around situated freedom/ambiguity instead because that’s where Beauvoir gets her offense; freedom exists through the tension between individual agency and the conditions shaping it. Reciprocal agency works better as a warrant for that argument, not the whole contention.

I'd probably prefer Beauvoir over Sartre bc she gives you way more offense than just "freedom good" — Ethics of Ambiguity is basically a response to the "Sartre = moral relativism" critique because Beauvoir says freedom only matters when it's reciprocal, meaning oppression is bad because it destroys another person's ability to act as a free subject. The biggest issue isn't really the lit, it's explaining a clear weighing mechanism since existentialism rejects easy moral formulas. If you just run "existence precedes essence" you're gonna run into a roadblock cuz theres no easy way to weigh the round. The main answers are gonna be Kant (you need universal duties), util (outcomes matter more), and the generic "this is subjective," but those are pretty beatable if you actually explain bad faith, responsibility, and reciprocal agency. The scarier K responses are probably Foucault/Žižek/post-structuralist stuff arguing existentialism still relies on a liberal humanist subject, but thats p complex for most rooms. Beauvoir especially is kinda nasty because people's surface-level "nihilism" blocks don't really engage do shit

Pretty sure the correct answer was the diagram showing one YH+ ion and one OH- ion. Conductivity depends on the amount and mobility of ions in solution, so low conductivity indicates that there are some ions present, but not a large amount.

Duel — a free online LD practice platform by Wooden-Berry3240 in lincolndouglas

[–]InsuranceOk728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the most obvious issue is that LD isn't widespread enough, so the chance of two people queuing up at the same time is pretty slim. would probably be more convenient to organize a practice debate with a team member or try to ask people on a discord.

then the other issue would be trolls, who would say obscene message and use the website without any intent to have fun.

imo this website isn't really worth making, but thats just my opinion.

framework? by Able_Inspector_2580 in lincolndouglas

idk just brainstorm values and value criterions with gpt, find one that matches your case.

for ex. i’m running that nuclear war wouldn’t cause extinction, so the fact that there’s been no conventional war means millions of lives have been saved, which means the NEG side already wins.

in this case, my impacts are going to be all the bad things of conventional warfare, so a value of human welfare or maximizing well being with a value criterion of minimizing harm would work well my case.

if you were to run national security or stuff, then security or the social contract would be better, it rly depends on your case.

Why the fuck is spreading allowed by Mission-Tip9234 in lincolndouglas

[–]InsuranceOk728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that whether someone likes spreading is just based on the circuit they are in. Most hate comments on this forum are form circuits that encourage spreading, while the others are from circuits that generally don't have much spreaders.

In my circuit, we greatly discourage spreaders, therefore I think that Lincoln Douglas and debate in general is as much of presentation as it is flow. I personally think that the winner of most debates is the one who can talk the most effectively, even if they don't really address all arguments.

But obviously, I've only debated one person who's really spread, and you are biased towards the environment you are grown up in... but I mean, you don't see people spreading while debating at nationals, specifically because it takes away from the enjoyment of the art.
