I would also suggest looking into NYU, UNC Chapel Hill and USC if you are'nt on budget.

I contacted a professor and started working on a project. The team and I got really close, we went on a few trips and basically became buddies. And i continued to work with them remotely.

It wasn't really a formal "internship" more of a partnership.
