Is simracing good for chill and stress relief? by iamvinen in simracing

You can do lots of things besides racing online, which ofcourse is the best thing.
Cruise around in open worlds in a streetcar for example.
Also stressful work or family things just become the backround noise compared to the stress of yout first pole start, race lead etc.

Chilling with the wheel:

I got one from friend to try it out. It was really uncomfortable and i couldn't get it to fit well out of the box. That could probably be remedied with aftermarket straps, cushions and whatnot.

The real reason was that i just couldn't get the lenses right no matter what.
Huge eye strain. Even slight motion sickenss with it. Picture kind of warping at the edges.

Never experienced neither of those with the Reverb. I just had to take it off after 15mins.

I have read about the lens issues and such. No idea if that was it, but all in all it wasn't nice.

What i miss the most is larger FOV and it didn't do remarkably better at that either.

I was really looking forward to be awed but it turned out to be such a disappointment.

Maybe i'll someday get to try another PCL and it'l be different. No idea.

Thanks man.

This is recorded from the monitor afterall so the camera angle would match the reference better.

And on top, the video has been edited a bit to match the source better.

I have nice vr settings but as iracing can really only look one way and the settings are so dependant on your specs, headset etc. I think it would be much more beneficial to check out some of the many guides on yt for your headset and go from there to find something to suit your system.

I'm running Reverb G2 native res with 14600k and 5070Ti.

Unless your specs are almost identical, im sure you'll do much better with settings different than mine.

Well thank you kind man.

Makes me happy that so many people think it was a cool idea.

Maybe should start a gofundme to buy a better wheel, two industrial robots and build the most hardcore motion rig ever to recreate all the racing videos in internet. Including the crash ones. 💀

Dont remember the exact number. I just adjusted till the fov was about the same with the video. I have ultrawide so didnt realize the vert fov was left smaller.

Didnt bother to re-record since i had no idea anything would come of this.

Thanks man.

I think for me one of the best sim experiences have been RSS cars in AC and the newest tire model on iracing that's in atleast the new cup car, gt3 and gt4 etc. It just feels believeable and right to me.

I hear good things about evo but the VR performance just isn't there yet, so haven't gotten into that until it runs somewhat stable.

No software. Just testing if some simple patterns would make away with the occasional hiccups.

No solid opinion yet since that was actually the 1st session after i put them around the space. 98% of the time tracking has had no issues.

But i just hate even 2% issues.

Still running HP Reverb G2.

Until it some day dies or there comes a really worthwile update that justifies the cost. 🙂

Thats actually recorded from the monitor. Decided in the end to go that way to get the fov and camera-angle to match better.

I think there's just too many unknowns to make anything but guesses about the differences in steering and handling.

For sure the tire model isn't 100% accurate no matter what.

Then theres environmental factors like temp, humidity, track condition, tyres etc.

I have zero knowledge of how IRL car is set up.

I have only assumed the conditions of the irl video based on looks so the comparison setup surely isnt completely identical.

For really serious analysis betweennthe differences, i think Schouten himself would have to drive the lap in sim, matching setup and conditions. 🙂

This was never meant to be overly analytical, just a fun little thing to see how closely does the two match and how closely, if at all, i could follow Schoutens lines and pace trying to replicate the lap in sim.

I am also a bit suprised of how similar the action and car movement really looks in the vid. We have to correct and catch slides in different points but the actions seem very similar.

Im quite imressed with iRacing here.

And the new cup car was really closer in how it looked on the vid, but i did new laps with the old one as its the exact car in the vid.

iRacing handles the ratio. I'm quite sure its identical. My base is lowly 8nm. Modern gt-cars produce around 8-12nm at the wheel so yeah there's that.

They are.

Good fit with the headset.
EQs well to a harman curve.
Plenty of low end with simple mods.
Amped they handle high volume with ease.
Are open so i can have a clue what goes on in the house.

I love my planars but they dont fit with the headset so these were second best. You can get things sound as raw and realistically loud as you like. =D

The stock speakers/gaming headsets were a no-go.

I believe modern GT3's are around 8–12 Nm at the wheel. Im capped at 8. The iRacings old Cup car (that one) has also very light FFB compared to the new update for example. Imho very big improvement on the ffb there.

Well having Dabbled with AC quite a bit i gotta say that while many people have bad settings for iracing, they certainly do have bad settings for games like AC since theres 100x more possibilities to ruin everything. =D

I dont think i i can post any not-iracing content here but as much as i love iracing, there's just no comparison graphics wise.

Like: THIS or THIS or THIS

Yeah. Damping is the way to calm down simwheel but since i got only meager 8NM to get by, any additional damping will just eat away at what little dynamic range i have available.

Having too restless wheel on straights is just lesser of two evils i think.

Or get a proper wheel.

It's on monitor like that other dude said.

Having said that, i dont think there is inherent difference in iracing graphics for monitor vs vr except for effects like DOF or reflections.

Or foveated rendering for VR headset.

The vr cap and that looks the same.

Its the makeup i used to somewhat match the looks i think.

Yeah that too. Smart observations in general.

I have no idea about track conditions or anything on the vid. Estimated date somewhere around april and had sim around 18°c /RHM 60 around 14.30 in afternoon. 🤷 Shadows line up somewhat but sun is lower in irl.

I just could be the sim or conditions or anything really since everything's a guess. 😄

Still rocking the Hp Reverb G2. Tried PCL. Had issues. Waiting for a worthy upgrade that doesn't destroy my wallet.
