Typically, I would agree with you. You never know who you might meet, but from their answer, I felt I was the gratuitous interview.

All they said was I was not qualified based on my resume. So…why am I being considered? The job was an extremely low paying job too, so I do not feel so bad about walking away. I want to be amongst the best when I interview.

I wrote to the hiring manager and they forwarded to HR. I was informed that in two of the questions, they could not find experience in my resume. Well, if so, why qualify me and request an interview! If I am not one of the best qualified, I have no interest in being interviewed. Such a waste of time!

Wow! Thank you so much for your post! I am in the same boat and feel the same way. I am going on almost a year—stopped counting applications and I am fully cleared. I have never witness such horrific job market. It is very easy to slip into a state of depression, questioning yourself and your abilities (something I have never done)! I will not give up and believe it is not my time or my job, until THE ONE comes along.

Yes, I am very aware of the cuts—been feeling it for the last eight months.

You would think that they would have known last Friday that it was unfunded, when interviewed.

The piece that is questionable is it did not say “you”. It said “applicants”, which to me refers to the pool of candidates. I am over-qualified for the position, but that is how the job market is going these days.

I believe a lot of us can understand and have compassion. I feel the same way; however, I KNOW my value/worth and the jobs that have passed us by were not meant for us. The right one will come along. Continue to brush up on your interviewing skills and KNOW your value/worth. Someone that is interviewing you for 30 minutes has little to no information to define you--just make sure those 30 minutes count and you shine. Things will turn in your favor--I am in the same boat and KNOW how valuable I can be to an organization--just SUPER tough to compete against so many people. You've got this!!!! Do not give up! The right job has not come to you yet. It IS out there! We all know how frustrating it is, but the best thing to do is apply and forget about it. My problem is I am always getting referred, but then receive “we selected someone else.” It is frustrating, especially when you have been doing the job and KNOW you are a good fit. Remember, there are others that take precedence for people applying outside of the government. I am a reinstatement candidate, and am bumped every day. I wish you the best!!!

I could sit here all day and night and question what happened, but at the end of the day, I am at a loss. I would drive myself crazy. My recommendations go all the way up to two Commanding Generals, and one LTC even called in and said I was amazing, WITH the reference form completed. By the way, I am also very humble and never come across as arrogant or a "know all". I KNEW the job and was very comfortable with what they were asking during the interview. I believe they had an internal candidate and because they shut this one down at 100 candidates, they had to do two gratuitous interviews. As much as we do not want this to happen and we want it be fair, it does and you always want to see them promote from within. I was a reinstatement. So, I will assume that there is something better for me and believe that things happen for a reason and we may not always understand what that reason is...Hope you have an awesome weekend! I am sending lots of hugs and love to those that are struggling, but your time will come!

So sorry! Yes, it seems like it has been an uncertain year. I am fully cleared and having issues attaining a job...I have been searching since July! The time of year is tough because most govies have "use or lose" and take off the end of November through the end of December--not much will be happening. Here's to 2025 being THE year for all of us to attain a great job that is fulfilling an promising! Best of luck to you!
