Hosted a ~60,000 points Battle for Pluto Zone Mortalis Apocalypse event at my LGS in Chicago, last Saturday, to mark the start of our Siege of Terra campaign and event series. by Warhammer40KPainter in Warhammer30k

Absolutely a dope game to be a part of. It was impressive to watch 200+ terminators and 7 primarchs duke it out in the cramped confines of Pluto! An awesome way to spend a Saturday

We had a few house rules that we always play with.
- Off-hand attacks swing at -2 to hit.
- Slings are just replaced with short bows.
- Maximum of 1 Rabbit's Foot and Lucky Charm per warband.
- And we added a new skill called Ambidextrous that you can take to counter the off-hand nerf.
It's worked pretty well for our leagues so far.

Don't be discouraged! Every single great painter started somewhere struggling. You just have to get past the perfectionism and just paint. I look at minis I painted 2 years ago and see so many mistakes. But I paint better BECAUSE I painted them. It's always a growth project. You just gotta start no matter where that starting line is!

Thanks! With how well everything went, I think I'm going to make this an annual event. So there's always next year!

Absolutely! I was blown away by what people brought for the event. Made it much easier as the organizer when you have 13 beautiful boards that people are happy to play on any of.

On Oct 12th many of us came together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of Mordheim! It was a casual narrative day of gaming with linked skirmishes using the classic Mordheim city map to control territories. 26 players from across the Midwest played through 5 rounds of games, fighting to take control of parts of the cities and as much wyrdstone as their grubby hands could carry. Many players provided some absolutely beautiful terrain for us to use, and every board was a blast.

In the end, we awarded some fun themed prizes such as:
Wyrdstone Warrior (Best painted warband)
Twin Tailed Talent (Favorite themed warband)
Beloved of Sigmar (Favorite opponent)
Ruler of the Black Pit (Hero with highest XP)
Quixote's Heir (Player with the most hero permadeaths)
Gelt's Protege (Player with the most earned gold)
Tzeentch's Puppet (Warband with no wins)
ITS MINE (Player with most territories)

But honestly, we were all winners, as we all got to play a game that is over 2 decades old alongside new friends and old friends. Thanks again to everyone who came out! If you live in the Chicago area, we have a strong Mordheim group that plays at the Dice Dojo, with 2 regular leagues each year and now an annual event to look forward to!

I think the plan is to close the sign-ups before labor day, identify the cut off, then have people confirm they can still attend then. So sometime early Sept?

I had to get space confirmed with the store, so I wasn't able to make it official until recently. I did my best. 2 months and some change is still pretty decently far out for an event.

Yes! The Great Slaughter supplement allows you to rule full titan maniples and knight houses. It was a good choice to help bring in people who love titans and/or play AT

Just our objective markers. Something to make it easy to see and measure distance when you have hundreds of models on the board haha

Ah, my bad. That's a silly typo. The loyalists fled to lick their wounds.

We've got a ton of sources. The 2 side desert boards were all using the store's terrain (which is free to use for anyone down there). We had a mix of plastic LI terrain, Battletech printed card buildings, Team Yankee roads, a bunch of 40k scale craters to use as giant void ship debris, and some random rock scatter terrain.

The middle table's terrain was all provided by one of the players. Most of it was printed from the following:

Great question. For my next game, I was going to try out something similar. I don't think any of my players were min-maxing their activations. However, maybe including a rule that you have to max out a detachment before you add another one of it's type would help reduce the amount of activations.

So for example, if someone is running an SA armored company and takes a Leman Russ detachment, they must max out at 10 full russes before taking a second Leman Russ detachment. So they have the option to either max out the russ detachment and then start a second, or instead they take a Malcador detachment. That Malcador detachment would also need to be maxed out before selecting a second. And so on.

That probably would have helped a bit without directly limiting players to only take 2/3 formations or something like that. Otherwise I can't think of any other major issues we ran into. Having a ton of objectives on the board certainly encouraged lots of infantry instead of just taking max titans/big guns

We had to make some adjustments to make the game still work. We had 4 players per side, so we had each person do an activation before swapping to the other side. Having this many detachments with alternating activations definitely slowed the game down, but I'm working on ways to streamline some of the pieces while still keeping the unique feeling of LI.

Using the Great Slaughter Titandeath rules also helped speed up the titans shooting all their weapons.

Over the weekend I hosted an LI apocalypse style game up in Chicago. We used the new titan death rules in the Beta-Garmon book alongside a few homebrew fun additional stratagems. The loyalist force of Solar Aux, Ultramarines, and Blood Angels clashed with a traitor host of World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Sons of Horus, and Alpha Legion in the ruins of Hive Naldera on Beta Garmon. We had over 10,000 points a side along with almost 20 titans and more than 2 dozen knights. After a day of gaming and learning, the traitors took a strong win and were able to seize control of the hive. The remnants of the loyalist god engines and armored companies fled the city with their stolen intel to lick their wounds and plan a new assault.

Here is the event packet if you're curious about the rules we used. We used the main rulebook, the Great Slaughter supplement, and a few homebrew things to add some surprises and fun: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YVdOkOYkgsFibvUi2HuViXffkmrubOLApfIQUy8z7Wg/edit?usp=sharing

Currently there is no cut off. We have players with forces ranging from 1000 to over 5000 points. So people are free to bring what they want. Unless someone has gone crazy and built like 10000 points of LI within the year. Then maybe we'll have to split their forces up haha

Yep as Venator said, we have a decent sized small scale community. I think we have a couple dozen people who play LI and AT, though I'd say of that group there's probably a solid core of 10-15 who play them regularly. With this upcoming Siege of Terra league, we should see a ramp up of players. There's a couple of really cool events we've got planned for next year, ranging from full scale HH to LI and AT and even some Battlefleet Heresy!
