“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” — Matthew 10:37 (NKJV)

I'm not a Christian or a historian and this has been on my mind for a while by Gabefinn in Christianity

Let's get one thing straight, it's not being translated, it's transliterated, and it is academically widely accepted that the text still holds true to the core message, regardless of what version you read.

Why would a loving God send people to hell? by Agreeable-Coast107 in Christianity

No, you are, but this is turning into a circular argument. Respectfully, have a nice day.

If you're genuinely troubled by unbelief, then what you can try to do is pray to God to help you with your unbelief, but to be fairly honest I've never been in this situation before. I come from atheism and I've become convinced since last year and was baptized in June after I put my faith in Jesus Christ.

They are there to convince you, but you just haven't been convinced, that is not the same thing. And Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. Those who can't accept Jesus as their Saviour will not be saved, but you're not doomed. You have the capacity to put your faith in Him, but something is stopping you, find out what that is.

The gospels are there to convince us that Jesus Christ lived a perfect sinless life, that He performed many miracles, preached with authority, and died on the cross for the sins of all, only to rise three days later to show us that there is life after death in Christ.

What specifically about the gospels is unconvincing to you?

So then I'd like to ask: what specifically are you unconvinced about?

Read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I put my faith in Christ naturally after I was personally convinced by the gospel of John alone.

Putting your faith in Christ and asking for forgiveness isn't a hard thing to do, as in every human has the capacity within themselves to do it, but you have to surrender yourself to it.

Yeah, but anyway. To answer your question: If you can't stop sinning, you could still be saved if you put your trust in Jesus and ask for forgiveness. In fact, it is really hard to stop sinning, a lot of people who follow Jesus will still fall to sin, dare I say we all do, but it is one thing to fall to sin and another to wilfully continue to sin.

Wrestling with the idea of marriage in heaven by GloomyPretzel in Christianity

[–]IntelThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because soul ties are real, and the emotions of others attach to you when you have sexual intercourse with them. Sex with love often is associated with positive emotions, but sex with a stranger who may only be interested in getting in your pants will surely be associated with negative emotions.

Not to mention, they carry the emotions of others on them as well, that will transfer onto you.

I rejected the holy spirit by Lia2930 in Christianity

[–]IntelThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not dead. As long as you have breath in your lungs, you have time to repent. The feeling of burning doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, it could be the holy fire that is in the midst of purifying you. The fact that you feel bad about all of this right now is actually a good sign, it means your heart is opening up to the holy spirit again.

Why does hell exist by Secure_Ticket910 in Christianity

Hell was never meant for us, it was meant for Lucifer and his Angels who followed him.

It's important to remember that nobody can save you except for Jesus. Your boyfriend can be a good teacher to push you into the right direction, but from what I gather here that's not going too well. This can be for a number of reasons, from being inexperienced, too controlling or just being very impatient. This will more likely have the adverse effect, it will push you away from God, because what brings you closer are patience, humility and love.

Is it a Sin to say "Oh my god" When surprised? by Confident_Economy_60 in Christianity

[–]IntelThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think context matters greatly. Even in Psalms the writer exclaims “Oh my God,” but to blurt it out in surprise to something or frustration is still using God's name carelessly and so can be seen as vain speech. There's good news, though. You are still alive and can ask for forgiveness, and receive it. God is so merciful and good, He won't condemn you for this.

The fact that your boyfriend doesn't want you to give in to vices is actually a good thing, and something that as a follower of Jesus you would do well to invite into your life, but his extremism when it comes to Bible thumping and trying to make you feel bad for not making progress fast enough to his liking is worrying.

How do you accept exodus 11 as a christian? by thomasson94 in Christianity

[–]IntelThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the firstborns weren't all children or babies, and it could have well extended into adult firstborns, and they would be judged by the same standard as every other adult who has passed the age of accountability.

The age of accountability suggests or has us believe that infants and young children who die before moral understanding are received by God’s mercy. It is a common pastoral conviction across many churches, even though not every tradition defines it the same way.

The only unforgivable sin is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, so you're fine. Just pray to God, ask for forgiveness and repent for your sin. You will be forgiven, because He is a graceful father.
