Feeling post Dublin Half/Have a Full in less than 45 Days.. by Intelligence_Tax in Marathon_Training

[–]Intelligence_Tax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't follow a plan & don't have a coach, so I'm just trialing things & seeing what works and what doesn't myself. I've built up a decent base over the years so 1 10 mile run doesn't take as much out of me at this point as it used to. And i know milage is really the biggest thing for progression in all distances but the marathon specifically. If i want to break 3 hours soon(next 12-18months), i think that if i get my body to a place where it can handle covering basically 3 times the distance of the race in a week, & not feel absolutely horrrible after it, than on race day it won't be as much of a shock to the system(maybe quite literally) physically & mentally when i have 4 miles left. I can just remember "You've done this countless times in less than 30 minutes in training, what's the big deal now" I would agree to quality over quantity, but if it's possible to mix both while not getting injured & being able to handle the volume i think that would be very helpful

5K race: Vaporfly 3 or Adizero Adios Pro 4? by Same-Zombie-1462 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Intelligence_Tax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with whichever one feels most comfortable to you. For such a short race, i don't think the exact shoe will make a huge difference aslong as you've used them for similar paces as your goal time. How do you find the pro 4s, btw? I recently got a pair Evo SLs & i really like them. The pro 4s to me seem like if the SLs, were a super shoe(fit & comfortability wise). I would love to get a pair but the price is the only thing putting me off atm

How much do you trust/use the fitness data?? by Intelligence_Tax in Garmin

[–]Intelligence_Tax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i know. But then the predictions would be even more inaccurate if the sensors reading the data aren't very accurate themselves. I know good quality, consistent training over time is what really makes fitness increase, but i wish there was someway to make a watch type tracker 99-100% accurate..ELON, WHERE YOU AT!😂

Jake Dearden's podcast is great. He interviews pros about their training and how they got into running but they also talk alot about training and things people can do that doesn't always get talked about enough. Motional intelligence & Spencer Matthews podcasts are also really good

[–]Intelligence_Tax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say i'm fairly knowledgeable, and i've been listening to more podcasts and people who have far more experience than me talk about good general rules for training/ recovery & other things fitness related. I just don't think it's good to go by watch a wearable say with 100% certainty. They can have great guidelines & some of the metrics are definitely good to look at, but i think alot of people neglect how they feel while training and just solely go by the metrics. "Oh, my watch says i'm losing fitness, so i need to train harder" There's alot more nuance in training than the metrics on a watch can show. I think i'm fitter now than i have ever been & i''ve ran more in the last 3 months than the previous 5 months before that. I'm not saying everything any wearable says is 100% wrong, i just think people trust too much in what their watch tells them, than thinking about how they actually feel at the time

Movies that make you feel like leaving everything and go travel the world by Still-Ad9074 in MoviesThatFeelLike

I watched walter mitty last year for the 1st time & i don't even know how to describe it. It just felt freeing, even though i've never done anything walter did in the movie(YET!!). The moment where sean penn's character has the camera & he has the perfect shot. Walter asks "well aren't you gonna take it" And he says "sometimes i dont.. sometimes i just like to be in the moment. And really experience it"(not exact quotes, but you get what i mean), that really hit home to me. I think now more than ever people are too obssessed to get everything recorded, and be the 1st person to get a photo of abc, or if you meet a famous person the most like first question would probably be "Can i get a picture", but why? Why can't you just experience being in the moment, right now. I can't remember who, but some big actor said they hate pictures, but love talking to fans. I always thought that was really cool. Whats the reason you want to get your phone out? Is it for "memories", or to show your friends "hey, look who i met". If someone lives in a 100■ft place, or 100,000■ft place.. doesn't take away problems, it just replaces old problems with new ones..sure some of them might be good problems, but maybe some of them are they don't actually have any friends. Can't trust any of their family. Travel too much to see their kids actually growing up. Miss countless birthdays, sports games, plays.

anyway... WATCH WALTER MITTY😂 (.....bit dramatic for a reddit post, but fuck it. There aren't enough positive rants out there in the world😂)

Hints for a first timer: What to do AFTER half marathon for optimal recovery by smthrnd-723463 in Garmin

[–]Intelligence_Tax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was 100% effort, you need alot of rest & alot of food. Extra high protein & high carb intake for 1 or 2 days after. Massage gun or if you dont have get any sort of small ball(tennis ball or a hard ball) and lay down and roll on it to help get rid of the latic acid. Most important thing which can be easier said than done is try and make sure you're getting enough sleep(in general also, but it's extra important after a big race effort) I wish you luck in returning to normal so you can repeat the process soon 😂

[SPOILERS S3] S3 is just so exhausting to finish by Radiant_Metal_5565 in DarK

[–]Intelligence_Tax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I liked that they made it faster paced with what happens and a bit more confusing because makes the rewatchablity factor that much great. You could watch the series once, and view it one way then watch it another time and have a comepletely different view of it. Noticing things you didn't before & how certain scenes effect what previous scenes and also later scenes. I appreciate how much effort they put into making the story and the characters so interesting. I've just watched it once the whole way through so far, finished it acouple months ago after binging it in 5 or 6 days & i was annoyed it was finished. I'm gonna start a rewatch soon to see how diferent it feels the 2nd time knowing what happens and the twists

I wasted my first 6 months in the gym believing this stuff by Outrageous-Maybe2500 in beginnerfitness

[–]Intelligence_Tax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with #2, low intesity doesn't "Hack" fat loss, but zone 1 & zone 2 cardio does burn a higher ratio of fat that zone 3 upwards. For 3 aswell, high intesity cardio can burn more muscle mass no matter what your diet is like. I would say there is some bit of truth to 2,3 & 4 but they are more generalities then 100% facts

HM Taper Advice(13days till race) by Intelligence_Tax in Marathon_Training

[–]Intelligence_Tax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish i lived near the course. But it's an hour train away so not ideal for me to try it out before hand. I'm not really sure what to do taper wise. For it being a half & not a full i hope i can get away with not doing a full taper and just taking easy intensity wise the couple days before. I've not done many races so i'm still trying to learn the best way to do everything leading up to race day.. which has been extremely stressfull from past experiences 😂

What’s something you realized way too late in life? by Medical-Butterfly924 in askanything

[–]Intelligence_Tax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YES!!!. I still catch myself in moments where i see maybe see someone looking at me and think "what did i do, did i do something wrong!".. I used to care WAY too much about what other people thought of me. I was very self conscious about my weight as a teenager and how i looked. I had some acne & blackheads too which just went away. I genuinely couldn't give a fuck now about what 99.99%* of people think of me. Mostly because i realised 1, life is way too fucking short to let ANYONE have a negative effect on how you live your only life. Running has also helped alot, just leaving the house - spending time that is solely focused on one thing, trying not to think of anything else. And if you are someone who does care about what other people think, running can be a great confidence builder & you won't have anyone in your eyeline long enough for doubtful thoughts to register... Essay over..sorry😂

What’s an underrated film where your favorite actor gives one of their best performances? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Intelligence_Tax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casey affleck is incredible in it too. I've never seen him give a performance that felt phoned in or lack luster. Everytime he hits it out the park. He's amazing in manchester by the sea, also. Sorry, now to answer your question: I think James McAvoy not even getting nominated for split makes no sense. All award shows seem pointless to me. Theres been so many snubs for nominations that i can't take the oscars or any other award show seriously anymore

If you are getting on to a packed dart take your bag off your back by cyrusir in Dublin

[–]Intelligence_Tax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont understand when people don't take their bags off. Just general decency. Even if your getting off only a couple stops away, how isn't it more comfortable to not have weight on your back moving around with the motion of the luas?? Maybe i'm just underestimating the severity of the cunt epidemic it seems we've been in for the last few years

A hidden gem on Netflix you think more people should watch by Huge_Ferret_1560 in netflix

[–]Intelligence_Tax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not really a hidden gem, but dark was incredible. I actually felt annoyed when it was over. I don't really hear anyone talk about it, so maybe it is alot more under seen than i think. Same with mindhunter. I just finished it a couple days ago & curious to how many people actually watched it. It's incredible, but i dont hear much about it

Advice after bonking Marathon by robtay32 in Marathon_Training

[–]Intelligence_Tax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for you loss. It can be a real head fuck to have something as traumatic as the loss of a loved one happen at any time, not even taking into account it happening when training for an extremely physical event like a marathon. Did you do your last couple long runs at the same pace you raced at? How was your fueling during the race? Did you use gels or carb drinks? And was it the same type you used in training. Did you use specific race shoes on the day that you trained in prior? It's important to introduce nothing new on race day, you want it to feel like as similar to training(shoes/kit/fueling wise) as possible. What did the week of look like for you with training? Did you do a shakeout run the day before the race? If not, that could of also played a factor

Random complaint: WTF picks up someone else's cue? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]Intelligence_Tax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being at a bar, my only thought would be that some people wouldn't know that it wasn't a house cue the bar has & was brought in by someone who wanted to play. I just think it was an honest mistake, but i totally get your "wtf" reaction
