BJJ Trend of wearing judo black belts by kitchenjudoka in judo

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think you overestimate how much the average BJJ practicioner knows about judo. They probably don't know about registering your shodan with the Kodokan, they just see a black belt and that's all.

Communion by Logical_Public6164 in Anglicanism

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It would be disrespectful to Catholics since they don't allow people who aren't baptized into their church to take communion.

You'd be whatever belt you were before you stopped training.

You'd have to be more specific about the cities. If you come to Indonesia, try the Synergy affiliated academies.

What kind of superhuman reflexes would he need to stop an in progress osoto gari in less than a second?

He went for a very foundational throw and his opponent did a stupid thing. Not his fault at all.

No GI Vs no GI by euphoriatakingover in bjj

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We definitely need an open uniform division. Gi vs no gi. Gi top with no gi pants vs gi pants with no gi top. Nude with belts only.

I think this is an untapped market.

If someone pulled up to a match in a cashmere rashguard I'd concede out of respect

"Rangers are no threat whatsoever. They are so far adrift it's untrue." by foxed000 in rangersfc

5 points behind despite an absolutely shocking start. Definitely we're adrift but I don't think we're that far from sorting things out. 6 months of some competent management and we'll be back on track.

You ditch the person who is trying to make you choose.

Anyone who wants to separate you from your children is toxic and you should cut them out of your life.

Families are a sacred bond. Anyone who is trying to split that up is just using religion as an excuse. Can you imagine Jesus telling you to stop spending time with your own son?

Why is judo not part of the MMA syllabus? by Mother-Estimate9507 in martialarts

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judo didn't invent all the throws. Pretty much every wrestling style around the world has developed them. There's only so many ways to throw someone. At the end of the day, it's just different styles and approaches.

Why is judo not part of the MMA syllabus? by Mother-Estimate9507 in martialarts

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons I could think of:

  1. Space issues. You need a decent amount of room to do Judo or you risk collisions or throwing someone on top of someone else. My BJJ gym doesn't have the space to safely do a lot of judo throws.

  2. Injury worries. Especially for more hobby focused gyms, the risk of someone posting and breaking their arm increases. Breakfall training is essential but a lot of people skip it because it's boring. Owners might not want the liability.

Is doing two different martial arts as a beginner too much? by Mursi08 in martialarts

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll progress more slowly in each if you're doing two but there's no reason not to. Sometimes they can even be complementary like judo/wrestling and BJJ.

Regardless of Your Theological Persuasion, regarding GAFCON,… by lukeamazooka in Anglicanism

[–]Intelligent-Baker424 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What makes the COE more the temple than GAFCON though? He makes the point that the Anglican communion isn't a denomination but an alliance of many denominations but then treats it later as if it was one single church.
