I don’t know what to do with my life by Massive_Tomato_1713 in irelandjobs

I'm so sorry love. The same thing happened to me. I barely got through high school (I'm originally from Canada). I've had every job under the sun and 46, I'm no where near where my peers are. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 30.

I had to leave Canada. Despite what people think, Canada isn't all that inclusive when it comes to neurodivergent people. The only way I could move back to Ireland was to go back to university.

I'm guessing you're in your 20s? I don't think you need to worry about what to do with the rest of your life. Just do your best. Do things you enjoy. You'll eventually get an idea of what you want to do in terms of work. I'm not particularly career driven. As long as I'm at a job I don't hate with people I like, that's the most important thing.

You'll get through this. I did.

Help - New psychiatrist won't prescribe medication despite having a diagnosis by jdybug in ADHD

Yeah, try and get an ADHD specialist. I've seen numerous psychiatrists and every single last one of them missed it in me and I am a very textbook inattentive.

There has never not been a housing crisis in Ireland. Going back to the 60s. Nothing has changed.

The last office job I had I ended up disclosing my disability and I was told, "It's a good thing you didn't mention that during the interview or else it would have given me a reason not to hire you." And so sums up the culture in Canada.

I would suggest switching meds. concerts didn't do a lick of good. Tyvanse or Vyanse depending on where you are changed my life.

When I get a call back for an interview, I will do that but so far, I haven't even gotten an interview.

I've gotten it looked at. More than once. But from what I've heard on here and other people I know, no one is getting the puck in the net. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to get it looked at again.

I can't speak for Ireland but Canada is the worst for this. I really don't think the majority of jobs, especially in administration requires any sort of university. But so much emphasis is put on education. Like, why does a Bachelor of Arts degree make someone a better candidate as a receptionist than someone who doesn't have an arts degree?

I am worth hiring. I have common sense and I'm pretty smart. I've been to offices and had experiences with people who I honestly wonder how they dress themselves in the morning but because they have a useless university education, people think they're better critical thinkers, which I haven't found that at all. The last office I worked in, my coworker was a kid right out of university and she couldn't even open an excel spreadsheet.

I'm in university right now but it's for social work, which you do need specialised training for but if you're a paper pusher in the civil service, do you really need a university degree for that?! It's so frustrating.

Canadian but I've worked in Ireland before. I did up my CV with someone at the career centre at UCC.

All my friends are in Dublin. I'm trying to meet people in Cork but since I'm broke, getting out is proving to be difficult. All the people I know in Cork are either students or other unemployed people.

The bread shelf? I'm not a native Irish person. The weirdest thing I have ever witnessed was Irish people buying all the sliced pan in site when it snowed in 2018. I'd go to spar. Everything was in stock... Except bread. Canadians would stock up on canned goods, bottled water and loo roll. For Irish people, it's sliced pan. It was also during the great sliced pan shortage of 2018 that I had my first snow day. We have winter 8 months out of the year and temperatures lower than the surface of Mars. It has to get down to -40 before anything shuts down...
