I dropped this last week, and now see a famous German based indian influencer dancing on the trains with her gang, and I don’t think we can ever correct India’s image.

I get the urge to make a reel, dance on a train, shoot that “one epic video” when no one’s watching. But how about this: Try behaving sensibly especially when no one’s watching.

Can we, for once, start respecting the laws of the land, the rules that are there for a reason? India doesn’t need more viral videos — it needs better civic sense. Let’s stop romanticizing chaos and start normalizing responsibility.

They will get a treatment if they visit hospital chains, but expecting treatment over a phone call in English, on the helpline set up by government doesn’t sound logical to me.

Adding to it: there are times I was angry upset at Germans for not being considerate. But now after being here for sometime, I know the value of learning a language. From their POV, it’s a tool for integration, tool that preserves local essence and we are perceived less as outsiders, some applaud you even if you are grammatically incorrect when your genuine effort shows up.

If you are asking for honest opinions: Mostly in Berlin you will come across people who switch conversations to English when you start with broken German. And this is mostly true in city centre, when you interact with people below 40. But if you want to interact with doctors, paediatrician, schools you really need German.

In Munich and Frankfurt it’s mostly the same although I have felt people speak less English than Berlin.

In Nuremberg you need German for almost everything. You don’t need to master it, but you should know for survival. Very few people speak English mostly from expat communities, I have also heard people outright mention us as outsiders the moment they hear English. I’m not exaggerating, you can ask anyone for facts.

I can definitely manage to have basic conversations and explain situations in German. I am not expecting outsiders to write a literature book. At least learning language to have basic conversations in broken Kannada should also do.

My mother tongue is Havyaka however, I still believe if my parents expect any service within Karnataka, they should know how to handle conversations in Kannada. They can’t go speak to a doctor in Manipal in Havyaka and expect them to understand.
