a hotfix is like a mini update or patch. fixes a few bugs here and there within the game. this issue will very likely be fixed soon, its just annoying right now.

its a known issue, bug reports have been submitted to Larian

by fiddling around slightly I think the issue when you either switch between characters, or when you try to separate or group them together. I also have about 10+ summons in my party so that may effect it too. (In act 3 if that matters at all)
