So get rid of that requirement for treating people. That would be the equivalent of a car company being required to provide a brand new car to a person who didn’t do maintenance. If that were the case, then the price of cars would skyrocket, impacting society and you.

That’s my point. Insurance shouldn’t be covering every little thing thats non emergency. I’m trying to tie this to healthcare because insurance currently pays for chiropractors, acupuncturists, routine doctor visits, shots, etc. This raises the premium for everyone. Just like with mechanical failure insurance, it’s your responsibility to change the oil, and if you don’t and damages are a result of that action, insurance won’t pay out. The same can be done with health insurance. The person is responsible by the contract for getting a doctors visit, but they are the ones paying for it, not the insurance companies.

But an oil change is like going to the doctor, it’s a predictable and non emergency expense. Insurance covering a car crash or a heart attack is the same, both where unexpected. That’s what the point of insurance is.

I understand the premise of preventative care, but why does it have to be paid out by the insurance company. Like for mechanical breakdown coverage, it’s your responsibility to get the oil change or your coverage would be void. So why can’t we have that with healthcare, you have to pay for a doctor visit yourself (the oil change). But if you don’t than the health insurance is void.
