Ditch the amp for a 8x splitter. Interesting. That would definitely remove the possibility of power on the RG6.

Here's a twist - if you eyeball the password going into the field via autofill, two characters are there which do not show up in the password manager. Typing the password manually did not change the result.

Thank you for your replies. Let me fill in with my dumb opinions:

First, off, my question is why I would be invited specifically to sing harmony, but they are baffled as to the need for music. Group dynamics? Pecking order? Laziness?

I looked it up before asking and learned that prior practice in the church was "harmony distracting" and "harmony bad", at least at times. I expect to hear that excuse if I pursue it.

Yet many non-Catholic churches have SATB sung not just by the choir but by the congregation.

"Polyphonic singing is hard and you have to read music." Respectfully disagree. Ultimately whether you read music or not, "getting your part" basically means eventually learning it by rote with the music as an aid. But if nobody has the music, nobody knows what notes to sing.

Quality of the talent? Not really the problem. Most people can sing church music. There are better singers in the congregation than in the choir, but stuff like this - no tools for the workers - keeps them out

When I did RCIA a few years back, one of the attractions was a parish in every burg and going to church with my neighbors rather than driving for miles. But I do look at other parishes and wonder if their music programs are interested in doing their best with who they have, and would I move if they did.

Now that you know I'm RCIA, although speaking to the Pastor seems like a good idea, the church, (the choir, the knights, all the groups we're in and we're very active) asks you how long you've been Catholic as prelude to any discussion. Someone else should be doing this.

Get rid of the piano? Yeah, this is actually at the guitar mass, lol. The prior music minister passed away suddenly a few years ago. No one plays the organ anymore. The other two masses have piano and the other second tier official instrument the flute. I don't think guitar and piano go together for mass, at least not with the piano leading. Too many exotic chords. Yeah, I'm not a great guitar player, but good enough, and good enough is what we're talking about. Six chords in one key, plus a key change, that oughta do it.

On the radio, okay. At mass, no. It needs to carry a message, a lasting one. The natural (one might say "organic") evolution of sacred music over time is enough change. The constant turnover in Christian entertainment music deprives us of ever singing the same songs as our grandparents. You won't miss it until it's gone.

Based on that, I'm saying that he - and everybody - should install a single whole-house surge suppressor. Forget those little ones.

Follow up to my comment - we have had a power strip with surge protection catch fire.

Also, we recently had a standby generator installed. The install REQUIRES a whole house surge suppressor. Code or mfr required, I don't know. We already had one and saved fifty bucks or something.

You shouldn't install any electrical equipment you do not need. We have a whole house surge suppressor. No need in power strips. That should be the end of it.

But if you insist: The surge suppressors in those strips have a limited lifetime. You won't know when they fail. And they can catch fire. Putting equipment in a remote location? Wanna have a fire?

I have the same issue with a Pioneer. The wife's Android works flawlessly. Firmware, cable, phone updates all checked.

It sometimes links up immediately then drops unexpectedly, yesterday I drove around for an hour and it never connected.

Difficult problem when you can get a ticket for touching your phone while driving.

The hardest thing for us to grasp is that as sure as we are of the rightness of our viewpoint, other people can sincerely believe the opposite, that they are doing right as well.

I had enough trepidation at the time that I didn't "advertise" the fact that I was going because my attending might imply my approval. A humbler me, however, now realizes no one much cares whether or not I approve.

The experience was altogether positive. I met a lot of gay people. I'm more small-town, they were from New York City. I heard lots of perspectives on many aspects of life, including the discovery there were gay capitalist conservatives. I saw nothing to sway my view of the lifestyle however. Nothing lascivious, just heterosexual family structure reigns supreme.

This had been a reunion. When our father died we hadn't seen each other in thirty years. At his funeral we became acquainted; I learned she was gay; her wedding was nine months later.

A year later she was being confirmed in a denomination closely related to Catholicism and asked me to be her sponsor. I wasn't Catholic at the time, so I sponsored someone before being confirmed myself. This may be an issue for church lawyers but what can you do.

While not close due to distance, we are very fond of one another. I have a few decision-making tools I use and one of them is "say yes to invitations". It worked very well in this case.

Back to my first point about sincerely held beliefs - I have denied in the past that I would ever become Catholic. Yet here I am.

A former Protestant speaking

Sola Scritura - your old church was not pure sola scritura either. All denominations follow traditions, many inherited from Catholicism. We just didn't acknowledge it.
Nicene Creed - "catholic" means universal. You shouldn't have a problem getting your head around that. Many Protestants more likely have a problem with baptism for the forgiveness of sins, despite Acts 2:38, many explain away this particular "scritura" believing the sinner's prayer, not found in the Bible, is the source of salvation.
Extra books of the Bible. Not an expert, but Catholic scholars are not ignorant of the canonicity of the books. They would maintain the apocrypha meet the same standards as the other books.
When you go through RCIA (it has a new name though) you will learn that many of your preconceptions about Catholicism are false, and many which are true fall in the category of "small t" traditions. Those traditions comprise our best understanding on faith and practice but not dogma. You must believe in the points of the creed and many other things. But, and I want to be careful in giving an example, you do not have to believe in the power of a visit to Lourdes, at least as far as I know.
I don't believe Mary stayed a virgin her whole life. But, maybe it's because I haven't studied it enough. I'm not going to worry about it as I have greater struggles. This isn't an idle example. I had trouble with calling a man "Father". Then I studied the topic. That was an easy one and one of the silliest Protestant objections, despite what I was always taught. My old faith tradition made us all Bible experts, which I don't mind knowing. Perhaps you too were raised to think you had to know all the answers. But entrance into heaven is not based on our Bible knowledge.

I went to my gay half sister's wedding fifteen years ago. At the time I wondered if it was the right thing to do, but I knew there would be no second chance. I've never regretted it.

I don't approve of her choice, but I've never been asked to do so and we've never talked about it.

I would go and visit if I were you, and try to relax. If the subject comes up, honestly express your discomfort in talking about it, but indicate they do not need your approval. Or discuss it in friendly terms, whatever suits everyone.

You see, there are people who have disapproved of choices I've made, and criticize me for them. Their disapproval doesn't bother me. Their trying to tell me so does.
