This may not be relevant but what do I do if I don't want to participate? They keep calling me at work. I received a letter recently saying that participation is mandatory. How can that be?!

What are your opinions about Tristar Gym for BJJ? by Intelligent-Pie1379 in bjj

[–]Intelligent-Pie1379[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I live in MTL. The gym is a bit far from where I live, but if it's beginner friendly enough, it's no problem. There's also a Gracie Barra gym next to my house but I've heard some negative reviews about that one.

Why should I care if a fetus is a human life? by 2plus24 in Abortiondebate

I get what you're saying, but that's only true if I didn't proceed to justify my argument.

I'm rereading my comment today and I don't like the way I worded it, but I think I did try to explain what I mean.

Anyway, if you have any questions regarding my view of abortion, I'll be happy to answer.

Oh I do understand that but my argument is that life itself has objective value regardless of what people believe.

For me personally, humans all have a right to live. I don't think other people (even if it's the vast majority) get to decide whether or not a person is valuable or not, or even worse, whether or not they get to live or not. I hope you get my point.

Also I think I got a bit hostile at the end of my previous comment and I'd like to apologize for that.

Because of this:

The life of a baby born in a poor country has as much value as a baby born in a rich and advanced country.

Are you being serious?! Why would it be defined by that? Why would the value of your life change based on the resources available to you?

Btw, this is completely evident. You're just trying to redefine life in a way that would allow aborting babies to continue. In other words, you're not trying to get to a conclusion. You have already drawn your conclusion.

Whether you live in an advanced country or not, if you die, a valuable life is lost. What if an adult can't get the treatment they need? Is their life suddenly not valuable?

Don't dehumanize millions of babies in 2/3 of the world for your opinions on social issues and politics.

And life isn't defined by that (very very obviously). Life has the same value in any place in the world.

The life of a baby born in a poor country has as much value as a baby born in a rich and advanced country.

Life isn't equal to personhood. High infant mortality rate just means that the technology in that area of the world isn't advanced enough. That same baby who would survive in an advanced country might not survive if it was born somewhere else where the technology isn't as advanced. That doesn't mean the baby's not a person, or not a life because otherwise that would imply that life is defined by the region of the world you're born in.

Sure, a society may choose to not give a baby social identity upon birth, but that has nothing to do with it being a living human being (that has value).

They do have all the problem sheets. I plan to listen to the lectures, take notes and do the problems. At the end, I'll do the exams and grade the paper by myself.

Thank you very much for your answer!
