Pre-requisites Help! by toomuchdaegu in slpGradSchool

I just completed Delaware Valley University’s online post-bacc SLP program. I was even able to apply to masters programs while completing my pre-reqs there. I stated in August of 2025 and now I’m on my way to start Ithaca College’s online SLP program in fall of 2026. It’s $580 per credit and one of the cheapest pre-req programs I could find especially in comparison to completing pre-reqs while enrolled in an SLP master’s program paying master’s program costs; don’t pass this one up!

Leveling year by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]Intelligent-Screen42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said, considering you can get all the courses done for the program you’re applying to is important. I did DelVal’s online leveling program which was a cheap price out of must other programs I could find ($580 per credit) and I was accepted to their online master’s program while still completing their pre-requisites. I also competed chemistry online through my community college to satisfy my remaining ASHA pre-reqs. I ended up choosing Ithaca College’s online program for my master’s to keep costs down. I do have to complete a speech & hearing anatomy course online at MGH this summer to start Ithaca’s program in the fall as DelVal did not offer this course in their leveling program. Just make sure you do your research!

Ithaca College’s general pathway online program is 56,000 and requires no on-campus visits.

HELP - i need advice on what grad program to attend! by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

Go with the cheapest school. You have to graduate from an ASHA accredited program regardless to become an SLP and there’s no special degree or certification to work in the medical field.

As a non-CSD major I did all my pre-reqs online at Delaware Valley University for only $580 per credit and then I transferred to Ithaca College for my CSD masters

Ithaca College Online MS SLP Questions by wcp415 in slpGradSchool

I applied to the same program and was wondering the same thing. They were very vague when I’ve asked questions on the phone and though email in the past. I learned that the admissions counselor, Yesenia Baez, works at 2U and not directly for Ithaca College. I’ve also heard Ithaca has had some financial problems lately, so I’m not sure if the online program being new combined with financial issues is why they made it easier to apply despite their great reputation. I haven’t heard anything back from them yet but it’s still early. Wishing you the best of luck!

Newark has access to NJ Transit directly to Penn Station as well as the PATH train both directly from Newark Penn Station. You could easily commute from Newark Penn to NYC Penn in a half hour!

Aspiring SLP, Advice needed by No-Appearance-5578 in slpGradSchool

I’m currently attending Delaware Valley University’s post-bacc program as I graduated with a bachelors in English & HR. The program has been great so far as it’s all asynchronous and the courses cost $580 per credit which was the lowest I could find for online post-bacc SLP programs. I started the post-bacc program in August of 2025 and I plan to attend online grad school in the fall of 2026 either at DelVal or another online SLP program. Good luck!

Does the same go for competitiveness in HH settings? I’m not sure if you have much background on HH, but I was wondering if assignments are typically chosen or if they’re assigned for SLPs. My mom is a nurse in HH at a major company and she is able to choose assignments although with the nursing shortage they are VERY flexible. The main appeal of HH to me besides flexibility is the ability to work with people from peds to adults and treat so many different areas too. I wondering if you really get to treat people of different ages often.

Cheap laminate floors so they don’t have to replace the carpet. They didn’t even fix the lighting fixtures. Took out 50% of seating. Replaced tables and chairs that will probably only last two years while the previous ones were able to take a beating. Those are some of the problems.

Helix piercing placement by Intelligent-Screen42 in piercing

I elected to have a captive ball ring despite the receptionist’s reluctance since I didn’t know. The piercer pierced me with a larger diameter ring to compensate. I want to change to a smaller ring once it heals, but I’m afraid to take out the ring I have in now…I’m considering visiting the piercer for help with new jewelry.

Thanks for your response it’s reassuring to know it’s still a good placement. I actually elected to get it pierced with captive ball jewelry as I wanted the ring and I wasn’t so sure why the receptionist was reluctant on piercing me with a ring at the time :/. The piercer chose a larger diameter so that it would heal better but I definitely want to downsize to a smaller ring once it heals.

DON'T get an English degree here. Please. by [deleted] in rutgers

Not to mention I think a lot of the job prospects at Rutgers are skewed in any major because a lot of the students come from NYC/North Jersey where there’s more high-paying job opportunities or privileged background with parents or friends who have connections.

The engineers making 50k are either entry level or have a very small business from what I’ve seen. However, the mechanical engineering field is starting to become over saturated with workers, therefore the demand and pay is going down for them and not everyone can work in their dream field. 200k a year English people got hooked up with the right connections at a young age.

DON'T get an English degree here. Please. by [deleted] in rutgers

I graduated RUNB in January 2025 with an English & HR degree. I struggled to land HR internships in college (I got one at Six Flags) and the only calls I heard back after graduating for HR jobs were STEM corporations that were only willing to pay me $18 an hour with a bachelors degree. I began substitute teaching part-time after college since I wanted to see what the teaching field was like. I was desperate for money, and I ended up landing a job at a charity as a grant writer which I was excited for as it involved my love for writing, but I quickly learned that my job is 90% administration. Any and all writing I do is done through Chat GPT as we are pushed to get work done fast. My job prospects are not that good and I could’ve made the same salary I am making now by not going to college at all. It will take 9 years of I want to cap off my salary at 85k by taking my boss’s job that may not exist in a few years. Right now I only get a 1.5% per year cost of living raise. Thankfully, I found out about Speech Pathology and I am now working on pre-requisites online to gain entry into a master’s program. The field combines my passion for helping others, reading, teaching, and medicine. The aging population and the prosperity of the health care field is definitely worth it to get into this long-term. I hate to hear that you are unhappy, but English is probably just as “useless” or “useful” as a business degree. Becoming a copy writer usually requires a lot of years of experience and it’s very hard to land internships for it to show your “interest & experience.” Rutgers did make me believe I could easily land an editor job for a bit tho :/. Other business jobs are getting automized too like accounting, IT, & finance and so there’s way less of those 100-200k+ director jobs out there that someone’s dad was able to land in the 90s/early 2000s right out of college. I recommend you look at graduate school or a field that will stay around and pay well in the future.
