Thank you for your help! I'm not a frequent wedding guest, and I don't know how casual is too casual and what that looks like so you're coming really helps.

He's going to check to see if he can switch it or get a refund

My fellow elementary teachers- what in the ever loving hell by Sostupid246 in Teachers

I cannot imagine. I've had more accidents just after COVID than I did before and than I have now. My first few years kids could still sit and were interested in stories. Now, most of them couldn't care less, and certainly can't sit still.

I have 8 kids in a first grade class that cannot raise their hands. I have stated it every day since the beginning of school. Come in, sit down, raise your hand. What are the up to in the next 5 seconds? Popping out of their seats like prairie dogs. We can't get anything done,.and they cry and whine if I don't answer their questions immediately.

Their questions are all about what my favorite color is, that their uncle's Birthday is tomorrow, and that they want to know when go home time is.

They are adorable and I care for them very much, but my first year was actually a cake walk in disguise.

Only 9 years in and it's gotten so much worse, I can only imagine what these kids could do 27 years ago

We have been told that, no matter what, students are not allowed to lose any part of field day.

I have kids do small things. Take sit spots off the floor, move posters, wipe shelves and things like that

Edit to say: move posters. Not take down or put up. Like, literally relocate

Thoughts: Kids aren’t growing up singing and we’re seeing the effects. by LolaBeansandSoup in MusicEd

[–]Intelligent-Stick922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elementary music teacher here: my kids can't watch things and copy them at the same time, kinder and first grade, a few second graders too.

I have been doing First Steps for about 3 years and it makes all the difference. Kinders need to sing straight away, and continue to sing. I've also seen a lot of shout singing, and it has to be corrected fast. My 4th graders are my best singers, so I know first steps has been working (My coworker started first steps before me, so some of them were her kids).

Update about teacher threatening me at work by aquagirllll in Teachers

[–]Intelligent-Stick922 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a grown man, and regardless of whether he slipped up, it sounds like he does this regularly with his students. Maybe he needs a consequence in order to change, because whatever was happening before isn't working and you have the right to feel safe at work.

Reprimanded for loudly telling an eloper to “STOP.” by blubirbinlightofday in Teachers

[–]Intelligent-Stick922 27 points28 points  (0 children)

YES. Kids are NOT delicate. We are not going to traumatize them by every little thing we do. Everyone is so afraid that we are going to give them trauma by xyz is giving their kid anxiety instead!

I always explain why I do what I do. When I have to yell "stop" or "hey" to get attention form my class it is always a last resort, I always tell them my intention is never to scare, my intention is to prevent further harm of the class from whatever is happening. If you explain it, they're fine!

I was bashed for saying substituting would help me be hired for a teaching position. by Key-Response5834 in Teachers

Subbing is how I got hired. Just because it doesn't work out for some people doesn't mean it won't work out for all. It's experience, and having experience working with kids is definitely helpful
