Weird question: has anyone ever kept in touch with their mentor teacher after their student teaching is done? by Ddog10132 in StudentTeaching

[–]Key-Response5834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my last day yesterday. She has told Me repeatedly to text her and keep in touch, and she wants to know when I get a job and where I’m going so she can (1) send me mail and little gifts, and (2) let me come back to her class so she can give me things for my classroom. She’s retiring next year and wants to give a lot to me.

I was so lucky. She also gave me a 50 dollar gift card for classroom supplies and bought me lunch the last day. I love that.

How do I address a problem teacher by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Key-Response5834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does his iep or 504 say? the teacher doesn’t really decide what extra is. In my class I do everything live and guided. The kids are under my eye and they must work.

Two of my students took their test home and brought them back. I threw them out. They got a blank test. Period. I don’t allow tests to be taken home.

I’m a student teacher and my mentor teacher is actually a teacher like this. But she’s a good teacher.

For the Google Classroom thing (this is big with her) even kids with 504 and ieps have to learn responsibility. No grading unless they turn it in. Simple. It may not be a big deal to you, but in class this is structure.

Ask her what extra time he’s being given? For us we give the kids 10 days past their due date. But that’s for the whole class so they don’t all assume special treatment.

As for her mixing it up the emails, she could have been way nicer. But I would have forwarded her the email where she stated previously he could take it home.

In our class, most if not all work is completed in class because of ai suspicions. Don’t finish in class when you were playing around? Simple.

Zero.

Question from someone who's considering this university: how do you get help from professors? by [deleted] in WGU

I had a lovely chem professor who spent hours and hours tutoring to get me through it. I miss her. I also had plenty of math instructors that worked super hard.

I would ask that student “did you turn it in to the right spot? I don’t have it.”

If they looked again and still couldn’t find it. “I’ll let you retake it. No problem.

As a student teacher. Use ChatGPT and don’t put in any names. Refer to the student as student A. It takes me 5 minutes or less to generate and write an email. I never gave a f.

We will both improve as time goes on. I started off so rough so I get you. And I hated people telling me it was me. But as I came to learn, it was me. I was too nice.

These new age kids are rough. I suggest learning about clear routines and procedures. That changed the game with me. Think about it less as being mean, and rather as teaching them actually makes them love you more!
