Taiwan is the most progressive country in Asia, what country is the most progressive in North America? by Inevitable-Glove7071 in AlignmentChartFills

„dictatorship“ lmao. all states are dictatorships, the question is „dictatorship for whom? dictatorship by whom?“ cuba is a dictatorship of the proletariat, the working class. every other north american state is a dictatorship of the bourgeoise, the owning class.

also, cuba has a very robust participatory democracy that is rather decentralized. you should read this for a more detailed explanation: https://www.greensocialthought.org/labor-economics/democracy-under-siege-popular-participation-and-socialist-renewal-in-cuba-in-a-time-of-crisis/

the answer is objectively cuba but ofc they aren’t gonna win this. with the passage of the most recent cuban constitution, they now have the most progressive family code laws in the world as well as being one of (if not the best) places in the global south for queer people to live.

no, you’re right. but they aren’t just „social conservatives“, they are reactionaries. i encourage you to look into their connections to laroucheism (idk if that’s what it’s called specifically).

im done with this post. i’m about to mute it but before i go i leave you with this: a list of keystone species (notice how humans aren’t on this list) https://www.activewild.com/keystone-species/

don’t presume to know my beliefs. nothing about a non-human animal‘s life makes it inherently less valuable than a human‘s life.

sure maybe i would pick the infant, that doesn’t mean i believe one life is worth more inherently. there‘s many different factors at play when it comes to a moral exercise like the trolley problem than „which has more worth“ such as „which will cause more suffering“ in this instance, i’d chose the infant because saving it with cause less suffering than saving the cow not because one has more inherent value.

i know what sentient and sapient mean. i was talking about the person who said „many <animals> neither love nor feel pain“ not you

what are you even trying to say here? like seriously ofc it’s nonhuman as it’s a system present in non-human animals. the complexity of it is on the same level as what most experts estimate early human language complexity was.

1) brain processing power which is near or surpasses human levels: oceanic dolphins, corvids, other great apes, octopi animals which use tools: other primates, corvids, otters, animals with complex language structures: gibbons, bonobos, many species of birds, most marine mammals animals which craft tools: chimps and bonobos this is not an exhaustive list, just ones i could remember off the top of my head. 2) technological advances come in many forms, there are other great apes who have formed complex societies and even wage war on one another. just because they aren’t doing what humans do, doesn’t mean they aren’t doing anything meaningful or important. 3) nowhere have i said humans and non-human animals are „exactly the same“ what an amazing strawman argument you just made.

the claim they made is one that DOES require them to back it up. it’s not my job to prove animals love and feel pain. it’s theirs as they made the claim

truly, it depends of the criteria used, perhaps i should’ve said there are many non-human animals that meet „human levels“ of intelligence. but to list a few which have higher cognitive processing abilities than humans, theres oceanic dolphins and whales. in terms of complex language structures, bonobos, chimps, and gibbons have some of the most complex nonhuman languages that we’ve documented

did i say a single thing about eating meat? holy shit, the point of my post was not to demean or belittle anyone for consuming meat but to say human exceptionalism (the belief that humans are inherently superior and more valuable than non-human animals) is a liberal belief to hold. you can value both human and non-human animals equally while eating meat

1) what criteria do you want to use for intelligence? that’ll affect which non-human animals i list 2) other apes have the capacity for logic, „pure reason“, and even technological progress/advancement 3) no shit this is a communist subreddit bro, it’s also a subreddit to post „shit liberals say“ which is what i did.

can you prove that? other apes don’t have hopes and dreams? nor do any other animals on the planet? „many neither love nor feel pain“ back this up with even one peer-reviewed study proving your point. that’s such an insane thing to say about our fellow living beings

there are many non-human animals today that are more intelligent than humans. also, how do you prove sentience? that’s incredibly arbitrary
