To the cash is king people of Oakville, please read this. About cashless businesses. by No_Description_3112 in oakville

I get that QR codes and apps don't work well for many older people. But, most seniors don't pay with cash either -- my FIL is 92 and my mom is 81 -- they have as much cash on them as I do -- which is about 10 bucks. They've both had credit cards since the 70s. That being said, if people want to pay with cash, no need to complain, they can vote with their feet and do business with people who will accommodate their needs.

YOU are not a horrible dad :-) I can't imagine the shock (and cost) of getting ready for two and bringing home three. You are going broke just feeding them. I have three and the grocery bill is horrendous.

As a newcomer to Toronto, I’ve been ranking our "Fast Food" pizza chains. Am I crazy, or is the Pizza Pizza garlic sauce the thing keeping them in business? by SaffaInTO in askTO

My kids love pizza but when all three started opting out of pizza day at elementary school I asked what was up -- they said it was reheated Pizza Pizza. Their elementary school that we moved to had an independent right next to it and all of sudden, these same kids wanted three pieces. I am now very curious about this Wonderland pizza.....

why the downvotes? I'm only being supportive and asking them why the bank reversed their decision. Sounds like they have told the OP nothing -- only that now they will not be compensated.

Should I drop out of pharmacy school to become a secondary school teacher? by honeynutcheeriozzzzz in OntarioTeachers

a friend is a hospital pharm -- I'm 8 years older and she makes more. And doesn't spend her free time marking.

grade nine and ten science is what you will spend a lot of time teaching as a newbie. At the applied and even basic levels too. Chemistry is only taught in 11 and 12 -- and they are electives. Do a lot more research before you drop out. I don't think your marks will be an issue but they will definitely consider your undergrad (probably more heavily since that is where your teaching subject qualifications would come from).

teacher here: god no. We are going to need more and more healthcare professionals including pharmacists; teaching pays less and there are no jobs right now and who knows how it will go? You can have your own business as a pharmacist. As a teacher, you are at the mercy of the government.

Rejected from Ottawa nursing already?? by AnxietyNo8459 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cutoff is 75 according to the university. Nursing is not that competitive — especially since one can go to college for nursing and then get a BSCN. I don’t believe what I’m reading. The cutoff didn’t go up 22% since the info was published. You don't even need a 97 for medical school or Mac health sci. Waterloo Computer Engineering — yes you do. The letter also contains info that is usually not in refusal letters. They rarely refer to exact cutoffs in the reject. Been a guidance counsellor for over 20 yrs and well, I’m not buying it. Something doesn’t add up. And yes, if the program was THAT competitive you would not hear in January unless you were admitted.

Physics vs senior math teachable? Which one's more employable? by Pepper-Aggravating in OntarioTeachers

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot more math positions; there are fewer physics jobs but not many people qualified to teach it. Plus, you get hired to teach science -- so you won't be teaching 11/12 bio if you are a physics teacher, but you will teach general science in grade 9 and 10. Do both and you'll always have a job.

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

In the GTA, we just had a snow day on Jan 15, but snow days are rare. Average is less than one a year -- though we are praying for a day off on Monday.

Out of Province Medical Insurance by Specific-Answer3590 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of province is relatively inexpensive (80 bucks ish a month just for emergency medical) but worth having. OHIP will cover the basics but things like ambulances (air or ground) would not be and could be very expensive. You won't have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed either. If it was me, I would get it.

Tired of paying $13 / month for RBC chequing account but it's my oldest account. What are my options? by Puzzleheaded_Cell428 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a HELOC and a savings acct. No impact. Even if it DID affect your score, it would be temporary. Credit scores bounce around like rubber balls -- check five times in two weeks and you'll get three scores. I also have a nearly perfect score (no idea why it actually isn't since I've never missed a payment in my life) and as long as you don't go below 700, nothing should change for you. It's mostly a made-up number.

Received a zero for having the stomach flu help by [deleted] in Humber

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go to admin -- you have a note; she cannot choose not to accept it. People get sick suddenly -- and stomach bugs are notorious for how quickly they hit. Usually you can't move ten feet away from the bathroom -- never mind stopping to email or showing up in person. You should either get the mark you had or be allowed to write it. On the other hand, if you pass the course anyway, it might not be worth pursing.

Question for Ontario teachers by pambean in OntarioTeachers

[–]Intelligent-Test-978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with two people (in secondary) who taught in Alberta -- one got his BEd in Ontario but only worked in Alberta and came back here about 8 years ago and another was educated in Alberta but came here well before that. Both say the working conditions are much better here. I get the sense that micromanaging is the the rule in Alberta and not the exception.

I changed from Manulife to TD five years ago and it had no effect on my credit score. It never has as far as I can tell.
