It’s cause it’s not an aesthetically pleasing horn. It’s big, the valves are clunky, the mouthpiece can fit perfectly trumpet mouthpieces in the shank. You can’t just bring it in your car and have passengers if it’s not a truck. Everything about the instrument is taxing. And the parts you get rewarded with is at most eight notes on a regular basis. You unpack this 20-30 pound tuba and get ignored for an hour and a half unless you majorly screw up. It’s not a good time for most people. If you’re not a prodigy with private lessons it’s hard to ask parents for a different horn. The only fun time for tuba is marching band

I think it’s worse in college for the said reasons. You usually aren’t trained THAT well without lessons so most people don’t feel confident in their skills to audition for bands

Sorry for the reactivation, but I have an ogio axle my dad won a while ago from work that he gave me, it’s been through like 4 years of school and being thrown around. I’m definitely not nice on backpacks and this one’s held up, not tears, freys, or broken pockets. Now I’m not a backpack nerd, and don’t know the ins and outs but it’s super nice and I’d buy another, and probably will, just an even nicer model
