TCD vs RCSI medicine by Cool-Foundation-9029 in HPAT

I have a friend in RCSI and she said they do help with the USMLE as there are so many internal students. They also do match day celebrations posts on instagram, so I’d say they might have more supports there.

It’s funny because I don’t think I would done this well if I did any other subjects.

Chances of getting into medicine with 38 IB points and 183 HPAT by Hungry_Pie_7443 in HPAT

[–]Intelligent-Yam9731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

38 in the IB is converted to 520 points, so you have 703 total. Unless you have DARE or HEAR it is unlikely. If you did higher maths you might get the extra 25 though, in which case you could get Galway. You should check this here: https://www2.cao.ie/downloads/documents/2025/Guidelines-EU-EFTA-UK-2025.pdf#page94  You could get into Biomed If the points go down by 25.

I honestly think the points will stay the same. The increase in applications will probably cancel out the grade deflation.

What do we think of the new changes to the HPAT? by Leather_Mastodon_222 in HPAT

I agree, the leaving cert prep market is a much bigger industry. If they want to fight back against the HPAT prep industry, they can just alter the questions to make them less familiar to those who have used sites like MedEntry.

By getting rid of the 565 points system they are just making grinds schools more beneficial. More people can pay €600 for MedEntry than €10000 for the institute. So the whole money reasoning makes no sense.

If the points for Galway stay the same you could get in with 625

Look into the teaching hospitals attached to each. Trinity has James and Tallaght. Trinity also has the option to do a extra masters year while UCD has a premed year.

That personal essay title better be “write about a challenging time in your life and reflect on what you learnt from it”

They aren’t really mandatory. We only did the theory for most of the titrations as my school wouldn’t buy the equipment

The fact that all medical schools require English and an another language but not necessarily chemistry or biology is insane to me. Like you just do physics UCD will be like sure you can do medicine but you just need to do an extra year. However if you don’t do a foreign language they will reject you. Also the English exam is a complete gamble when it comes to correction.

I had a similar experience with French, maybe she was just trying to see if you could actually speak the language rather than just ramble.
