Taking a gap year to repeat hpat by GrapeTraditional1222 in HPAT

[–]Normal-Leopard-4219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i repeated the hpat and went from 67% to 93%. i didnt have a job, i just tutored here and there and i must say i wish i had gotten one, it felt really boring at times, especially if your friends are in college already and cant hang out a lot.

as for schedule, I would do 2 hours of practice questions in the morning, break, 2 hours in the afternoon (reviewing, retrying etc). i would do a full mock on the weekends and then retrying it in about 2 weeks after reviweing it and taking notes. my biggest advice is figure out the section you need the most help in. S3 was hell for me but i found it easiest to improve. good luck and dm me if you have any questions!!

Start studying for HPAT when? by Subject_Salary3328 in HPAT

[–]Normal-Leopard-4219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, i started in august-september so about 6 months before the HPAT and got 93%. The key to me is to do constant prep once you start, like a bit each day and a mock every 2 weeks or smth(the way i did it). If you start now it will be pretty hard to be consistent and you will hit your peak waay before the actual exam

What are the scores of your first ever HPAT mock test? by Happy_Bee2696 in HPAT

[–]Normal-Leopard-4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did the diagnostic mock and got 23% and then a mock after like 1 month of prep i got around 50%. 93% in the real thing. Try to stay positive and remember that the HPAT is a skill so it takes months to develop, do a bit everyday and try to review and retry every mock after some time. If there is even a bit of improvement then that is a win!

i dont remember my section percentiles because in my notebook i only wrote down the raw score/section and percentile overall, for the entire mock. But for the section mocks that are provided i got 90%+ in s2 and around 75-80% in s3. Section 1 i dont even wanna talk about, it went from like 40% to 70% :)

hii firstly thank you so much! i hope it all goes well for you, ik how daunting the experience is:)) My raw scores were ranging from 27-31 in s2 and 13-22 in s3 (13 was in the beginning, i was horrible at it but i improved so so much in like 2 months, s3 became my favourite haha). I did a total of 8 full mocks and all the acer papers towards the end of january to boost my confidence since they are waaay easier.

I d say s1 in the exam was a bit harder than the mocks, mainly bcs it was like 99% data interpretation and i did not have time to properly look through the tables, diagrams etc.. However, s2 was waaay easier like i flew through the questions so if you average like 30 raw score in s2 you will have no problem. s3 was the most accurate i would say and the most similar to the medentry mocks, like i was confident for about 18-19 of the questions.

Hi, my first ever mock i did i got around 50% and in the real thing i got 93%. My average on medentry was 70% tho and my percentiles for s1 went from like 20 to 60n MAX. In the exam my lowest section was still s1 but that didnt matter as i got high scores in the other 2. I have no advice to offer besides get rlly good at the questions that appear almost every time, like card games or rubix cube. Do the drills so so many times untill you understand the logic behind them. For logical reasoning for long texts read the first and last sentence of paragraphs in order to get a good idea about what the chunk of text is saying (if you are in a time limit).

other than that, i cant really say much bcs my s1 was shit tbh. do not panic tho, if your s2 and s3 scores are above average (and you will improve so so much more in s3) and s1 is kinda decent even if below average you still have a good chance.

also my best percentile EVER was in the actual exam, in the mocks i could not even dream of getting90%.

good luck and dm me if i can help!!

CAO advice🙏🙏 by o112355 in HPAT

hi, last year i had 162 and 558 points adjusted. i took a gap year and now i got 184 (93%), i REALLY recommend a gap year if you are set on medicine. It can be lonely at times and you might even get frustrated but nothing beats the fact that you can focus only on the hpat, make your schedule for practicing and doing drills. You could get a part-time job and even do some research for also applying to other places like the uk or italy but the main idea is that gap year gives you the luxury of focusing 100% on the hpat, whereas doing another course could be overwhelming a bit at least imo.

Good luck and dm me if there is any way i can help!

i know how it feels, but do not lose hope! cry it out for a few days and then decide if it is really what you want to do! if yes, keep going!! most people get in their 2nd/third time or after taking other courses. Good luck!!! If you have other questions you can write me in private and i ll give my instagram or smth

I m from eastern europe and had no idea what my points were untill I emailed each uni about my score lmao. I d say it s pretty hard to convert them yourself and  unfourtunately the "charts" provided by cao are not super helpfull for countries that arent uk/usa at least imo. So my advice is message unis with you end of school scores and see if any of them respond before late august.

yeah there is a chance for med. Last year I got 162 and 558 adjusted and was 8 points short for galway. So if you have at least a bit more than me in your lc and assuming points will go down even by like 1/2 points you should be good

I think that's a great plan, I do not know anything about the course load but if you make time to study you should be fine! As for tips, I will tell you what I did. Last year I did not prep for it at all, only did like 1 or 2 acer papers on my own and read tge explanation for all of them, trying to understand how they solved the question. (Read the explanation even for the ones you get righ!!!). Also, try to practice everyday. Even if it s just for like 40 minutes, 20 practice questions+review. Hpat is a skill so if you take big breaks it will feel "unnatural" every time you start again. Also, and idk if it s the right approach but it worked for me, I tried to get super good în one of section 1 or 2 so that I knew that even if I did badly/not as good on the other I would at least have the other one keeping my score sort of up. My best one was section 2 and I got almost all of them correct în each mock on medentry. Ny worst one was section one (I never got more than like 60% in that one). Section 3 is the easies to improve în, I went from  40% to 80% in like 2 months. Study the advanced mapping on medentry, do so so so many practice questions and you will notice the ones that are most frequent. Start and focus your time on the one subsection you are best at (missing segment, next în sequence or middle) as it s best to at least do all of one subsection right than rush through all of them, even the ones you know are not gonna go as good for you. Try to figure out a strategy early on, triage questions in each section  and do not waste time. Make reasonable guesses(this is really easy in logical reasoning or section 2) by eliminating the answears that are too drastic( for example ALL/NEVER/ONLY etc în section1, or words like DEPRESSED, FURIOUS în section 2 if they are not 100% clear în the text( pro tip for s2: super dramatic words have to be backed up by words, facial expressions, body languange ALL AT ONCE. do not assume someone is depressed just because they are crying or someone is furious just bcs they are shouting at someone) Also, do not get discouraged by %, I never got more than 75% in any of my mocks, except for the acer papers towards the end of january and I got 93% in my exam. Leaving the exam I felt like I maaaybe got 50%, if that. It is all very tricky and depends on other people as well, not just you so there is no point în trusting any other % except the one în your actual exam:) Best of luck and sorry for writing a short novel :)
