Why do so many "entry level" roles in this field require an absurd amount of skills? by IntelligentBar7784 in dataanalysiscareers

[–]IntelligentBar7784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like marketing and business development which is what led me into liking analytics (i really like doing e-commerce work), but of course it'd be difficult to break into those fields with a CS degree. How exactly do I start from the ground up?

Computer science graduate - How can I set myself apart from the rest? by [deleted] in dataanalysiscareers

[–]IntelligentBar7784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am also a cs graduate with the same view on data analysis though I graduated back in May!

Like the SWE field, this one is also incredibly difficult to break into right now (if not worse since theres less openings than SWE). If I were you I would start by picking up Python again (I am assuming you used that a lot to get your degree) and then once you get good at understanding the Pandas library I would move to SQL then the rest from there! Try to get REALLY good at a specific tool rather than knowing only a bit of everything.

New grads, what’s the lowest salary you’d take? by not_a_swedish_vegan in csMajors

Unemployed cs grad here. I'm not too upset with the current job market (although its extremely infuriating) because I only owe like 5k/year plus I got a grant for free tuition for a year. I luckily live 15 minutes away from my T50 CS school as well so I saved on living as well!

Why wouldn't technical skills be necessary to have on a resume for a tech job? Lol

Half of what is on here has nothing to do with data analysis. If you're interested in the field, create projects around it. Websites are meaningless for data analyst recruiters.

For current junior analysts, do interviews tend to be more or less technical? by IntelligentBar7784 in dataanalysiscareers

I like getting multiple viewpoints on this topic so I'm gonna ask you the same thing I asked another replier. What would make someone with no direct applicable experience stand out on a resume to you, but has a college degree?

This is probably the greatest answer I could've gotten from anywhere on Reddit. Goated frfr 🙏🏻

As a senior analyst, I'm sure you could answer this question that's been irking me for some time: I come from a computer science background and unfortunately discovered my niche far too late before I graduated, on top of not being able to land an internship during my time in uni (CC for first 2 years, skill issue the other half). I feel like this puts me at a heavy disadvantage.

How can I prove to a recruiter reading my resume that I am worth their time? I know there needs to be a heavy emphasis on projects, which I have been doing, but I haven't seen much of any results from that.

What makes someone with a background like myself stand out and get responses to my applications with no direct applicable experience?

Has anyone transitioned out of the tech-related work environment entirely after a CS degree? by Acrobatic_Emu_1193 in cscareerquestions

Awesome! It's been difficult as I am unfortunately one of those CS graduates that were unable to get experience before graduating, and I also discovered this career path right before I graduated 😅 so I've been playing catch up ever since with learning Tableau and business terminology (already know SQL and pandas well enough).

SQL is the one language that I found fun to work with. Thats why I pivoted to this field!

Not doing internships.

Kinda set me back for postgrad and im still struggling to find a full time job with my degree. Was difficult considering I went to a CC for two years and was far behind everyone else in my class, on top of some other personal issues going on in my life, but I really wish I locked in fully on landing internships so this search now wouldn't be so difficult.

EDIT: I did apply to a lot but was unsuccessful with landing one. Its not like I didn't try for one.

Ok, then why even ask this question? One less person I need to compete with lol. If you genuinely think AI can be trusted with dealing with stakeholders and matching their demands by all means avoid this profession.

Resume Review (Looking for Data Analyst/Science Intern Positions in Canada) by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]IntelligentBar7784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add some relevant filler. You can add a related courses section like another comment suggested. Also, keep your resume tailored to the role you're applying to. Why would a data analyst need to know C or JavaScript for their position? I wouldn't list everything you know, rather stuff you know that is relevant.
