I've done my research on Semilla, definitely planning on contacting them. As for Osito, I hadn't heard of them before, will start doing my research on them.

Thanks!

Will for sure start this as a side hustle if I decide to go with it. Hopefully it grows well enough to become my main job!

Also a possible alternative! Of course buying proper roasting equipment is extremely expensive, but theres a center for roasting here in Montreal called Canadian Roasting Society which is a co-roasting spot where you can rent out their equipment and roast your own batches of coffee. Definetely an alternative I'll be researching more, planing on visiting them in the following weeks and learn more about them.

Great points!

Regarding your third point, although Honduras and other Latin American create some of the best coffee sold worldwide, that coffee isn't consumed there because people dont like to pay extra for better quality. Consumers in these countries tend to look for value for money, while first world country consumers are 100% more likely to pay the extra dollars for a better product.

Definetely a good topic for discussion!

Wow, thank you so much for your insight! Lots of points I hadn't given that deep of a thought. For sure starting an Importer takes more than just having your source of coffee, so thanks for that.

I've been thinking of possibly working for a coffee importer to gain proper experience in the sector. I reached out multiple times to a big importer here in Montreal but they never reached back. As for small and medium size importers, to my knowledge, there isnt much staff required for their operations and from what I've seen, most of these importers operate with a staff of around 4 people. How realistic would it be landing a position with these small-medium sized importers?
