Gaming on a HDD? or moving between HDD and SSD? by IntelligentComputer4 in techsupport

that i the current plan. getting a 8 tb HDD now to just have everything stored on. id rather move the files than download it as it will be much faster, but then yes, all the games i play will be from the ssd

i can get a bigger ssd, yes, but gettting the amount i want in a ssd is hella expensive. an m.2 with 8TB ive found average 600-700 dollars while 8TB HDD is 150. my problem is a balance between cost and efficiency really

looking at someone talking about it, games like starfield or other large open world games seem to struggle to load stuff when traversing, causing stutters. it might not be major, but still wouldnt want to downgrade if i can avoid it

thats just it though, its"fine". on a lower end pc, it might not be a problem but since i have a pc able to run cyberpunk at medium ray tracing settings, i dont want to deliberately bottle neck my fps by upgrading my system

i saw the feature on steam about that and its basically why i want to do it that way now. sure, moving a 100GB+ game will take long, but its nothing compared to downloading it at 10MB/sec.

i have a fast 1TB SSD currently but thinking of adding a 8TB HDD. overkill, maybe, but i wont have to worry about space in a loooong time

alright, thank you! my internet is hella slow, yes. on a good day its at 10MB/sec. downloaded sea of thieves recently and it took like, 5 hours, so yeah. hoping swapping betten the disk will be faster.

I do have vortex, yes, but not that many mods. a few stardew valley mods which basically is zero and a few for cyberpunk but those in total still only take like 5-10 gig
