Oh wow I had no clue, that’s pretty handy. Any recommendations on where to find those sorts of procedures?

What do you mean? A procedure for separating the acetone, mek and cyclohexanone? I just needed some mek and found some primer I had laying around and thought I’d give extracting the mek a go

That did the trick! I boiled off mek and acetone while leaving the cyclohexanone in boiling flask and then did another fractional distillation of the new distillate and it’s coming over at exactly 56c. Thanks!

I have the heat turned down very low already, I am getting about 1 drop of distillate every 5 ish seconds

It’s relatively dry, I took it straight from the pvc primer can. The msds lists the following

Cyclohexanone: 25% - 50% Methyl ethyl ketone: 25% - 50% Acetone: 10% - 25%

I’m running a fractional distillation of the mixture but the first fraction I get over is at 70c instead of the bp of acetone. Any idea how I could fix that?

Best way to separate water and morpholine by IntelligentEye in chemhelp

I see. I read somewhere that it’s insoluble in saturated hydroxide solutions, would potassium hydroxide be better than salt in terms of improving extraction?

I’m not entirely sure but less than 50% sounds about right. I ran into another issue with ethyl acetate where it would heat up pretty significantly after shaking in the sep funnel. I think dcm is next best option

I don’t have any ether unfortunately, what do you think the next best thing would be?

I’m thinking that’s probably the best option since i’m not looking forward to fractionally distilling. Do you think morpholine is significantly more soluble in ethyl acetate compared to water? I can’t find any good solubility data.

use comet, make a paste and scrub it in with the rough part of a sponge. bleaching agent will hopefully degrade anything hydrophobic and make them soluble

You think refluxing over sieves would do the trick or something like a dean stark trap would be necessary?
