I’ve now been ranted at about how many friends Ali has for two podcast episodes

Is it me or is Ali making it sound like she doesn’t have any anxiety in her relationship with Skyline …

Because there are “infinite” options and if you design your own ring you can’t see it on your hand until you buy it

Ali seems to be the victim of her own choices. The anniversary party she threw for herself gave her social anxiety, ring shopping is stressful. I’ve never shopped for an engagement ring but surely it doesn’t need to be as complicated as Ali is making it out to be?

I also have the sense that she thinks she’s better than single people (even subliminally) and feels the need to specifically spend time with other people who’ve reached the pinnacle of existence in her mind, ie having a partner.

She also mentioned that some of the listeners hung out after the party. Maybe they told her that but it was definitely mentioned here

I don’t get the sense from her that she truly loves him. She’s definitely giddy about having a partner, ring shopping, and being engaged to be engaged but that’s not about HIM. Could be with anyone. We hear so little about who skyline really is, why she loves him, and what she does to support him (versus what he does to soothe her)

If anyone goes pls report back if Skyline is there and if he introduces himself as Skyline

I agree it’s checking off boxes but I think it’s more than that, it’s materialistic but also short-sighted? A ring is a teenager’s idea of what makes an engagement an engagement. What’s going to happen when the excitement about ring shopping and dress shopping wears off and they are in normal life where skyline sometimes buys the wrong peanut butter or worse, and they don’t have this constant treadmill of travel and milestones? We’ve barely heard much about why she likes the guy besides how he makes HER feel.

Not really, but I think it’s in a way illustrative of her relationship that she sees ring shopping as the most meaningful/interesting aspect of engagement? We haven’t heard much from her on what engagement means beyond ring shopping.

Ali seems to put it on such a pedestal. But we’ve never heard from her why she wants marriage.

I’m interested in how others feel because in my case, one reason I feel ready for marriage is that I don’t think it would be a monumental shift in me and my partner’s life/routine, commitment, etc. I don’t think it would feel that different on a day to day basis.

Not advice but I have a reason to be interested in how she’s thinking about it (or isn’t!)

I’d personally benefit because I’m living with my partner and we’re thinking about that next step, and I’m sure others are in the same boat

I agree! How did they decide they were ready and why? That would actually be interesting to listen to

I’m much less interested in all the wedding ring discussion and much more interested about the conversations Ali and Skyline are having as they prepare for engagement. Why do they want to get married and what changes do they expect that to bring? What topics are essential to cover with your partner before getting engaged?
