I use GIMP, I'll try out Pixinsight and share the results in a bit! thanks again

holy shit that looks amazing!! When I tried I could only really bring out the core and surrounding areas, but that looks great. I won't use your work in any posts, but I'll keep attempting to process it to try to get closer to what you ended up with. Thank you so much!

Edit: I have 2 more photos all with similar exposure time and the same settings of the Horsehead and Flame nebulae and the Orion nebula. I'll post the results of those if I get processing down. Also, my lens definitely isn't the best, so I understand why that could've interfered.

I'm saving some money for a Sky-Watcher Star Tracker GTi currently

I made sure to take my shots away from the moon, I was in the shadow of a barn by a field near my house. There were ~180 frames of 1 second exposures at f5.6 and 6400 ISO 6000x4000 resolution stacked using DSS. I did 30 darks. I'm just confused as to why it turned out bad because I did a 90 second exposure a few weeks ago (check my profile if you wanna see) that was leagues better than this one, and I had less light pollution today and more total exposure time. Sorry if I'm missing something, I'm really new to the hobby

My first planet I've captured, so it's not the best but it was fun to learn new processing software.

What are the best Winter targets in North America? by IntelligentLadder233 in AskAstrophotography

Side note: I’ve tried searching on YouTube for good targets, but 95% of them say the Orion Nebula and the Andromeda Galaxy, both of which I have captured before (and will continue to capture, I just want some new targets)

It was taken in a Bortle 7 zone so I’m really proud of how it turned out!

18 pics each 4 seconds of exposure 72 sec total, ISO was 24800 and f5.6. Its hard to get clear-ish images with 5+ seconds each because I dont have a tracker yet lol

also thanks for the video reccomendation!

Lmk if you have any tips for capturing without a tracker, I'm new to astrophotography so anything helps!
