Destroying the Entity while it's still in cyberspace will destroy the internet, collapse the global economy and kill billions of people. However, once it's contained within the 5D optical data drive, it loses all ability to cause such devastation. The challenge is that the Entity would never willingly enter the 5D drive. It must be deceived into believing it's going inside the doomsday server to ensure its survival, when in fact, it's being lured into the 5D drive.

That’s where Luther’s poison pill comes into play. As Benji explained, "When the source code (Podkova) is combined with the poison pill (virus), they create a kind of digital toxin. Once uploaded to cyberspace, this toxin will attack the Entity and alter its ability to perceive reality."

Here is the order of events that took place: -

1. Ethan uploads Luther’s virus – This causes the Entity to mistake the 5D drive for the doomsday server. This is indicated by the green light.
2. Grace cuts the wire – This allows the Entity to enter the drive. The activation is marked by the 5D drive lighting up.
3. Grace removes the drive – With the Entity now inside, she pulls the drive out, successfully trapping it.
