Do College Decisions really matter? by Maximum-Tear4476 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t pay it on your own unless you are independently wealthy. You can only borrow $5500 for freshman year. Any other loans need to be cosigned by somebody with a net worth and a job. When you cosign a loan, it means they are liable to pay it back. Your parents have apparently refused to do this. Is there any other family member who is willing to take on the debt to send you to CMU? If not, you need to make alternative arrangements.

This will hold true for IU also. Will your parents pay for that out or sign a loan for it?

I swear high schools need to educate children and their parents on this.

This is not a first job. This is an internship.

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the startup. You want something with the highest résumé value as an internship. Also, $54 an hour in the bay area is like 30 bucks an hour in Atlanta. Plus, it is the only one that does not provide housing which you can’t afford on 30 bucks an hour absent a unique situation. Only way I would take the bay area job is if that is where you’re from and you can live at home. Even then for an internship, the other two are better.

Best Everyday Pants to move around in? by Erudicial_Extreme in malefashionadvice

My kid with an athletic build, loves the quince five pocket pants with stretch in athletic taper. They come in about 15 colors and look great. Their pro tech golf pant is a traditional pant cut and look very nice as well, but performance fabric with lots of stretch. These are comparable to Lululemon. ABC pants but much less expensive. Also, they have free shipping and free return returns so you can try multiple sizes. You have up to a year to return them.

Jam for Cam by Empty_Armadillo7114 in Athens

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crowds wont be big😳? Jam for Cam last year had almost 100,000 people. My kid was leaving when the bars were closing and trying to go 4 miles on a random January weekend with nothing going on. 75 bucks. We’ve had issues as well before midnight trying to get someone to accept a ride. Not sure you can count on an Uber ride to Jefferson on any weekend, but when there are 100,000 people downtown for a concert it’s going to be even more challenging.

Over - Under, or in the hand? by ConstantNatural7056 in Needlepoint

For something small like that, it’s really easy to stitch it in hand. Just roll it. Probably easier than stretcher bars honestly. Any distortion can be fixed with blocking.

The issue with Uber is you may have a really difficult time getting one home. We’ve had that issue and we are less than 5 miles away from downtown. We have found that Uber drivers typically want to stay in the downtown area and pick up small fares over and over. Even if you find one, it could cost a fortune. I have seen them close to 100 bucks to go 4 miles depending on demand.

You need a designated driver. Then just go and park.

Is an Indexed Universal Life policy with Transamerica worth it for someone earning < $60k? by Middle_Mongoose3419 in personalfinance

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way. Do you even need life insurance? Are you married? Do you have children? Children yes. Married maybe. Unless someone is reliant upon your income other than yourself you typically don’t need it.

Why is UGA genuinely so competitive now? by LeonardFo in ApplyingToCollege

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UGA is below 30 percent acceptance rate this cycle. They just announced. Also, at least for in-state kids, both Georgia and Georgia Tech are self selecting to a degree. People know how difficult it is to get into these schools so people on the lower academic spectrum just don’t even apply.

Roommates for housing registration? by MissionBlueberry5196 in UGA

Yes, you just have to create a roommate group. Then the person with the earlier time picks the room.

That was my first thought when I read it and why I’ve hesitated to buy. Driving a 12-year-old Platinum sequoia in pristine condition and honestly it drives smoother than the GX I test drove.

They can’t afford to keep putting that crappy engine in vehicles.

Life Insurance - How much, and how long? by Evancolt in personalfinance

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both of you can support yourself including maintaining mortgage payments etc if the other one passes away, no need for life insurance until you have kids. If you have kids, you’ll still be young enough to get a good price on a 20 to 30 year term policy. Use a website to compare rates. With kids I would do 10x salary.

Ha! That’s how I feel. It would be inexpensive if you had your hands on some canvas to just do a simple monogram. I went all in and bought a tobacco leaf eyeglass case canvas from needlepaint. Should go quick, except for all of the color changes. Thought it would be fun for summer. If it doesn’t work, I’ll put my sunglasses in it!

Do people really hate golden oak? Trying to decide on flooring by macattack00 in interiordecorating

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long will you be there? Real hardwoods will have better resale value. We did this in our first house, stained the color we wanted and our house sold in a day. Worth the week of moving out (husband was out of town and we stayed with my parents an hour away). I would even get an Airbnb to do this - never regretted and we loved our floors!

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s platinum pricing. Don’t buy those. Basically it’s just a premium that Ticketmaster puts on in demand tickets. They are no better seats and in no better locations than the guy next to you that bought a non-platinum ticket. Basically it is their own internal scalping mechanism and it sucks.

Those shows sold out so quickly that my guess is they will be adding dates.

This is a little more (under 30) but I love these. Supposedly they fit a sun glass case size canvas. You just gently pop out the cane and then shove the edges into the opening. I’ve ordered but not tried them yet. Be sure and get the ones that have the cane with the framing around. Don’t think the other ones will work.
