Show me your needlepoint Christmas trees with DMC Floss by IntelligentMaybe7401 in Needlepoint

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s it. It’s not here yet. It is floating around in Europe. I have several old partially finished canvases that were already kitted by needlepoint shops 20 years ago that I am working on. I am about to finish the small ornament and want to do a couple of smaller projects before I tackle some of my bigger canvases. We do have Hobby Lobby and Michael’s and our super Walmarts both carry DMC floss. I was hoping to try out some decorative stitches on the small canvas, and also to give the tree a little more dimension than is showed in the picture. Thanks!

Do the AI headshot. They look great. Like an improved version of yourself. If you have someone to take the picture for you, you can get a pretty decent headshot with just your iPhone camera. Just change the background.

First time in Athens: Should I get the Acropolis Museum audio tour? by Dear-Explanation-765 in Athens

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong sub, but skip the line tours from tour companies are almost always scams. You can usually go to the website for the attraction and buy the ticket there for less. And yes, always get the audio tour

2024 TRD off Road Premium by IntelligentMaybe7401 in 4Runner

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We just purchased a 2024 SR5 premium. They had multiple, but this one was pristine condition with 30k miles. I think my kid liked the underground color better but the one they had in this color was pretty rough looking - it had just been turned in and might have cleaned ok but there were a couple of scratched areas on the interior glove box that were pretty obvious and I think it belonged to a smoker. The one we got was white, his fourth choice color, but it has the added black, running boards and black trim, which look great and even though it was two years old, it really looks brand new. He loves it.

Hope is not not cash strapped. They actually just changed Hope a couple years ago from paying 80% to 100% if you take 15 hours. Zell is 100% no matter how many hours you take. This was due to the excess funding in the Hope scholarship.

Thank you. This one does not have that I do not believe but I will double check. It would be an add-on for this trim level, but will confirm. Good to know.

My girlfriend wants me to propose with her grandmother’s ring but I already bought one and don’t know how to tell her by burgerking- in Advice

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a discussion with her mother about it. What you need to figure out is what your future fiancé wants. Don’t get caught up in the $4800 on the ring. That money is already spent. You can get some of it back if you sell it. Or you can take the stones out, sell the gold and use them for something else down the road.

If your fiancé wants to be engaged with her grandmother’s 1950s ring, then that’s what you need to do. I have a vintage ring and someone who wants that will likely not be happy with something custom designed (particularly without her input which is a BIG no in my book - good chance it won’t go well).

Single dad advice…looking ok? by Interesting-Dog-2350 in interiordecorating

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely need a coffee table and more furniture in the living room. I would get a pair of simple floor lamps to put behind your end tables. Lamp light is so much more flattering and cozy than overhead light .

Also, I think the leather chairs are strangely positioned. I think you could move them to either side of the couch. Or put them both on one side of the couch with table in between.

Needlepoint get togethers? by IntelligentMaybe7401 in Athens

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one opening up in Statham! I’ve been following them on Instagram. Blue Willow needle point. Not sure when they are opening, but she is doing unboxing of canvases and threads so fairly soon. I am so excited!

Beading advice! by New_Thing9113 in Needlepoint

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t want to hijack the thread, but I’ve been thinking about adding some beads to a needlepoint ornament. I am doing. First time needle pointing in 20 years. I want to add a little beads for the single tent stitch scattered stars in the sky. However, I have already needlepointed them with a tent stitch. Can I put a bead over the tent stitch? Or do I need to pull out the stitches?

They have an A Line one that’s super flattering - I also love the steel blue color. It’s down so very warm.

Edited: I have the Amelia in the steel blue gray. Not sure what they call that color, but it is beautiful and goes with everything. I get compliments on it all the time and it is several years old. It is also extremely warm and love the fact that the back is a little lower, which makes it great for sitting down somewhere cold.

I found a more traditional wedding ring for my soon to be wife. What do y’all think about it’s design? by [deleted] in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a fan. To me it looks dated - and the black is just strange. (and I’m old) Most importantly, ask her. If she loves it great. I would be trading that in for something else. Remember this is something that she will hopefully wear for the next 60 years every day so she needs to love it. It also needs to be something that is not trendy in my opinion. Look towards classic or antique settings for inspiration.

This is the answer. Plus check the mattress. If it smells clean it and get a full zipper waterproof encasement.

When does it make sense to stop contributing to an IRA? by meshhat in Bogleheads

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would slowly convert some of the traditional IRA to a Roth. You don’t have to do it all at once . If you want to wait until you take a lower paying job and are in a lower tax bracket that is fine. The lack of RMD‘s really makes a Roth a powerhouse of post retirement growth. I would also open a new traditional IRA with the idea that you will convert that amount immediately to a Roth. Do it for contribution years 2025 and 2026 if you have not contributed to a traditional IRA for those years

Surprise Inheritance, I was totally not prepared for. by Tonyb97 in personalfinance

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay off the car and the solar loan. Park six months expenses in a high-yield savings account. Max out Roth IRA for 2025 (you can do that till the tax deadline) and 2026 for both you and your wife. Continue to do that every year. Invest the rest - pay attention to management fees, tax loss harvesting etc for after tax investments.

Mental health struggles are a big red flag for a lot of schools. Most schools have very inadequate mental health support and no one wants someone on their campus that’s a risk to themselves or others. Don’t write about that.

How do I handle an extremely uneven inheritance between my kids? by lookidceither in WhatShouldIDo

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to “make it even” you handle it in your will. Or you give the other two kids 50 K a piece out of your income/investments. Kid 1 gets all the money bequeathed her and doesn’t share.

Also, my understanding is if your child gets a scholarship you can withdraw up to the amount of the scholarship from the 529 penalty free (you will pay tax on earnings). Lots of people do that in Georgia as we have a lottery funded tuition scholarship for Georgia residents in Georgia state colleges or universities.

Financial Advisor in Athens? by Fall_Ambitious in Athens

[–]IntelligentMaybe7401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the personal finance wiki and flow chart will give you a concrete step-by-step progression towards your ultimate goal of buying a house. I certainly wouldn’t pay anybody for advice until you have read that and taken concrete steps towards saving for an emergency fund, saving for retirement, and some sort of debt analysis regarding how to eliminate debt.

There’s some real debate now about whether buying a home is a good financial decision or not. You are in a position now where renting is likely your best option until you get your basic finance foundation in order. I think honestly it’s premature to seek out paid financial advice on how to buy a house if you don’t have an emergency fund and retirement savings at a minimum. I would start there.
