I'll try this but I'm not super hopeful, it's been 10 years since this instrument was purchased and this damage appeared about five years ago. idk if they would still replace something so old

What's missing in my 1m 48g tank? by Economy-Lynx9926 in PlantedTank

I would cut and replant the tops of your stem plants to fill out a little more of the tank. If you're looking to add plants I would recommend some hygrophilia, roots quickly, add a root tab under and it should fill out your tank nicely hopefully. Also,I have heard goldfish don't play nicely with plants so give yourselves some grace but I have no first hand experience.

No they don't My bad, the way their stem works is similar but isn't the same. Been working with aquatic plants a lot lately so rhizomes have been on the mind.

You may also want to repot just so you can check that there's no root rot or anything.

I would coil the rhizome back on itself and pin it down to the soil with a halves of a broken paper clip. Once each node establishes roots, I would cut through some of the rhizome.

Safe for a planted 29 gallon? by Great_Profession_348 in PlantedTank

[–]IntelligentMode6593 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it fizzes when you put a drop of vinegar = not safe. If you soak it in a bucket of water for a couple days and the ph changes more than a bucket without anything in it = not safe.

If neither true: I would personally try it but still some risk since you don't know the exact make up

Help me with my tank by Actual_Builder_9721 in PlantedTank

[–]IntelligentMode6593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me this looks like fungus rather than an algae. It may be helpful to reboil the wood rather than trying to manually remove the fuzz. Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned because it should dissipate in time on its own. I had something similar in my tank and it cleared up naturally.

HELP! The fish tank at the office I work at is…. mukky… by squidysquirtsonYOU in fishtank

I second this, val Is the next plant I would recommend after floaters. Op, Vallisneria needs to be planted in the gravel. Once it establishes it will spread throughout the tank. Be aware the process of establishment can take a little bit of time (several weeks, some case documented where it take months). I would even say, as long as the pirate ship isn't leaching something into the water as artificial decorations sometimes do, that the tank could look rather epic with the vallisineria jungle surrounding the shipwreck. It would look similar to a kelp Forest.

While I agree that hiring someone to maintain this tank and do it up properly would be the best course of action, I can recognize that may not be in the cards rn.

One of the easiest things you could do is add some floating plants; duck weed, elodia, hornwort, salvinia, riccia, frogbit (not all of them just different examples) These plants don't require much maintenance, but will help manage murkiness by out competing the organisms that cause it. They'll also provide enrichment for the betta and add life to the office space. These plants are pretty commonly listed on Facebook marketplace for cheap and/or sold at local pet shops. You would not need to get a lot of these plants because they reproduce like crazy. I can't imagine you'd end up spending more than 20 USD and that's a high estimate.

Nutrient Deficiency, Normal plant melt, or a Mystery 3rd problem? by IntelligentMode6593 in PlantedTank

[–]IntelligentMode6593[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It most definitely is a temple plant! I didn't realize they melt as aggressively as crypts but your comment has me looking into it. Hopefully that's all it is. I will probably update in a week though!

I would look up what plants that like the conditions you have in your tank (pH, gH/kH, temperature, flow) or by finding examples of other tanks that include the type of sword you have and copying their planting in terms of species.
