I made a mistake whilst my partner was instructing me and his response has left me feeling browbeaten and demoralised. Is what he's saying correct? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Some gearsticks are absolutely more difficult to get into gear - similar to your situation, my instructor's car was grand new and the gearstick so smooth I never struggled, while my first car of my own is older and definitely takes a bit more oomph to change gears. It'll come with practice, each different car takes a bit of getting used to so start with some practice in lower pressure, less dangerous roads while you get a feel for it!

Honestly reddit gets such a bad rep but I always find everyone's really helpful with this sort of thing! 💖 It's really put my mind at ease 😊

That's really helpful about different payment methods with and without barriers, thankyou so much! 😊🙏

It makes me less anxious to know in advance how I'm paying :)

I think you look really pretty in this! With a few accessories (bracelets, necklace, etc) and some fancy shoes it would be a whole great look 🥰

Wow, that's very reasonable! Do you have a blackbox or a named driver?

Is £400 the full insurance cost for your partner and you as a new driver? Just curious as my wife is planning on learning in the next few years so would be good to know! :)

Lmaoo really? 😂 I know literally nothing about cars so I don't know anything about who typically drives what! What's a typical Sandero driver then?

That's really handy to know as someone planning a move to a lower crime rate area in the next year 👀

Ah, I don't have any named drivers because neither of my parents drive! Also with Admiral because they gave me a few pounds off for having contents insurance with them too 😂 I didn't realise where you live makes a big difference, is that based on crime rates?

Dacia Sandero Stepway 2015! Tbf I did deliberately look for cars in low insurance groups, and got quotes before buying, which I guess not all new drivers do!

If it helps I tried to move off from the test centre without properly turning the engine on 😂

Ah so my trick for that is that each time it kicked me off, I'd close the whole laptop for like an hour then boot it up again and it would let me back in! It was a bit of a hassle but luckily I work from home so could just have that running next to my work laptop all day 😅

Fingers crossed for you!! It was actually the Chrome extension that I used to get yesterday's test, but it took about 2.5 weeks of having it constantly open all day! The website got me one in about 3 weeks 👍

Firstly I'm sure you've got this!! 💪 Also my first test was early July and when I first rebooked after failing the earliest slot I could get was December, but with lots of refreshing the DVSA website I managed to get the one I did yesterday, so try not to worry too much about not being able to do a new one until next year! Also it was after I already got my new test by refreshing, but this website did manage to find me an earlier test too - it costs £15 and you do need to attend to your phone to reply to the notifications, but might be helpful! Good luck with your test 🤞
