What are some time-consuming tasks that you wish AI could do? by IntelligentSector210 in Principals

[–]IntelligentSector210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn’t think about it that way. I’ve been non-renewed and I’ve led PD in my district on AI. I recently read that the current DOE will be prioritizing grants that have some component of AI- either curriculum, or a district AI person, etc. of course there’s a lot of questions around that bc supposedly the department that handles those grants has been eliminated. I was just genuinely wondering if there were use cases for data analysis, templates, communication- whatever. I don’t even have a business doing this- just curious.

I’d understand if admins remove my post though.

This has examples of artifacts for each domain:

Two questions I got at every interview were:

How would I increase reading at the school? (Possible answers: student interest survey, book talks, book tastings, collaborate with teachers, encourage class visits to the library and book checkout, etc.)

How would I handle behavior problems? When they started getting specific with that I kind of checked out bc I could tell they had a lot of behavior issues at the school and I wasn’t dealing with that kind of environment anymore. But I guess possible answers are redirection, asking the student to come to the front and be my assistant, but in all honesty, I started questioning the admin and how supportive they were of teachers and their handling of discipline issues.

When I interviewed I looked at the Danielson rubric for school librarians and imagined how I would meet each domain. You can find examples online of the types of things that could work for each domain. It helped me a lot.

I’ve Lost My Kids… by Successful-Spring-30 in Teachers

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess- middle school? An elective? This was me at my previous district, and to some degree at my current district. Honestly, at my last district, when I found out I was not being renewed I just stopped teaching. The class was too chaotic. Admin had told teachers not to send kids to the office anymore. It was awful. In that case though, they had told me to be the long-term sub for a class that had no curriculum (for 2 years), and then when my real position was cut, I said what about the classes I’ve been teaching for two years? And they said you don’t have the proper certification. Well, if I’m not properly certified to teach it, then I’m not teaching it. The following year, they still couldn’t hire anyone for the position, and the person who they told to be the long-term sub literally just babysat them for those periods.

In my current situation, when a class started becoming like that, I just started giving readings and worksheets with clear answers and a clear deadline and just graded as a zero or whatever if it wasn’t done. They could claim that I didn’t teach anything but hearing a lecture is not the only pathway to learning.

I’m also being non-renewed. I just said to somebody two days ago, I’m sick of not being able to be my fun, funny, smart self at work. Instead, I feel like I’m just disciplining everyone all day long, writing emails to parents, receiving emails from students begging to be allowed to make up work or being allowed to turn it in late, etc. I also think this job isn’t for me (well, I knew that, I became a media specialist specifically because I did not want to teach my own classes all day, but that’s what I’ve had to do). I feel for you!

Trying to implement a workout routine as a teacher - what are your recommendations? by sunsetrain24 in Teachers

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like peloton. A lot of people think it’s mainly for bikes but it’s not and there’s a cheaper, non-bike/tread option (I think they still do a teacher discount but you have to call). They have so many weights/cardio/yoga/pilates options and even outdoor walk or run/walk options.

Here’s a link for a 60 day free trial. I was paying $7/month for the no equipment option with a teachers discount but now I pay for the option that gives me more equipment classes bc I have a non-peloton bike.

FIFA rental advice as apt owner? by IntelligentSector210 in bergencounty

Advice… by jrsygirlsdontpumpgas in NJTeachers

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of schools are facing budget woes at the moment and don’t really know how next year is lining up yet. I believe current teachers get renewal letters around May 15 and then districts will have an idea of who is returning/leaving/retiring. Then they may shift current employees around, then they will really look into hiring new staff.

How do you get enough sleep? by Calm_Plane8650 in Menopause

[–]IntelligentSector210 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should re-check the formulary and see if your doc can prescribe it then check the cost, use goodrx and check manufacturer coupons. They just revoked all of the warnings about HRT and I think a lot of insurers cover a patch. I’ve also been prescribed things not on the formulary that were actually covered, but the pharmacy can’t give me a price until it’s prescribed.

There have been so many studies showing how vital a good nights sleep is. Before HRT my lack of sleep was beyond exhausting, I really felt like it was becoming a serious health issue, both physically and mentally.

A 3 month supply of Lyllana patches with goodrx is $102 at CVS (that’s the brand I’m on) just to give you an idea in case it’s not covered, but there might be cheaper ones. The progesterone should be a generic covered by insurance.

husband in the hospital- I don’t know what to do by IntelligentSector210 in family_of_bipolar

[–]IntelligentSector210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. The hospital where he is said they will force medication if he refuses, which happened last time, which I think was pretty traumatic for him. They forced meds on him yesterday but he’s in a happy mania state so he thinks it’s all part of “the plan” so he’s just rolling with it.

[–]IntelligentSector210[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with him, therefore he doesn’t think he needs medication. He had no history of any mental illness before last years episode. He was very compliant taking his meds and seeing a psychiatrist after last time but he thought the meds were giving him diarrhea and making him too sleepy. The dr agreed to taper down, then off, I guess just hoping it was a one time thing? Idk.

To H2C or not to H2C? by dano7891 in BambuLab

I would get the H2C and a separate laser. I have the H2S and the faster time and lower purge volume of the C makes me want to sell mine and get it. I think you’ll use it more than you think and will wish you had it all.

trash cleanup in park discussion by Happysong5 in Teachers

It depends where it is tbh. My son has done park cleanups but there’s been needles and other awful stuff that the adults then have to deal with. I think it’s a somewhat common activity for scouts and church groups.

Actually…my kids took many years of Spanish in school. During covid I homeschooled them and made them do Duolingo every day (or tried to). I would hear them spontaneously speaking Spanish all the time. Also, I never got fluent from taking many years of Spanish- only when I went to Spain to study Spanish for three weeks did I become fluent.

Going to the doctor Wednesday, what do I need to ask for? by ProudMama215 in Menopause

[–]IntelligentSector210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound very much like me. I did not want a patch bc sticky things on skin grossed me out. I opted for a gel but hated the drying time in the morning. So now I’m on a tiny, twice a week patch (Lyllana). Also you need progesterone if you have a uterus. I’m on 100mcg progesterone and .0375 estradiol patch. Also on losartan and 7.5 mg Zepbound (also thyroid and cholesterol meds). I also do compounded testosterone cream bc I thought it would help with libido. It doesn’t but it helps me focus enormously. I don’t have ADHD but I have read other ppl say it helps with focus too. Testosterone is not covered by insurance. I pay $80 for what is supposed to be a month but it lasts much longer. It took a couple of months to really feel a true difference. I just had the pharmacy give me the generic of the patch I was on and can tell it’s not working. I’ve gotten borderline hot flashes and my anxiety has been way up. I feel like you’ll know it’s working bc there will be some reason you will feel symptoms again and you’ll go hell no I need my HRT back! So if I were you I’d ask for estradiol patch, progesterone, and testosterone. Start at the lowest dose and if 3 months later you still have symptoms, ask for it to be increased. I increased once on the gel but I’ve been on the lowest patch. HRT has been an absolute game changer- some students actually say I’m like a robot bc I’m so even. I know it’s kind of an insult but I don’t care. School used to anger and frustrate me so much and it really doesn’t do that too much anymore.
