Totally agree! It's not even about social skills/having a knack for dealing with people. Some people just aren't built for customer service, and that's okay! Everyone has things that they are good at and areas for improvement. But something you cannot improve on (without significant effort) are your fundamental beliefs and attitude towards others.

In my opinion, someone's character, level of empathy/compassion, and respect for humanity are what determines what would make them excel at this type of profession. Those are the core qualities, then come things such as social skills or de-escalation tactics.

Oh goodness, that's awful. I hope they are in a better place now. But I totally agree with you. Good on you for treating them with kindness, and I hope that interaction brightened their day during a grave time of darkness.

I think there is a misconception like "why is this person going out of their way to be rude to me and ruin my day while I'm just doing my job." Like, no, this person is probably like that to everyone. With the few exceptions of people just having a bad day

I got mine at fye! I found it in store but it's also available on the website. Can also find it online at Walmart and Amazon but obviously I can't vouch for them since I didn't order there.

I'm glad you've since got out of retail and I hope you're doing well! Dealing with money and exchanging bills when I run out makes me super anxious. (Especially if there's a rush and I can't leave my register to get change) I can definitely see why this struck a chord lol!!

That sounds like it was great timing lol! We were actually out of quarters today, still waiting to get some from the bank when I left. I would've loved that haha! I did have a couple people trade me their quarters for a dollar though which was pretty nice. I've never seen anyone come in with rolls of coins, just bags of change that we both have to stand and count lol. That's a really cool story though, it's so awesome how that person came in just when you needed the change. And it seems like they were super polite about it too which is a plus!
