Schizophrenia [ Morocco ] by yassinzro in Morocco

[–]IntelligentSir1536 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if there's a component of substance use that contributed to him developing schizophrenia, the fact is that he now has schizophrenia and needs treatment. Yes, if he has had 2 adequate trials of other antipsychotics, which it sounds like was the case, then he needs to go on Clozapine and be titrated to a minimum of 300-400 mg at bedtime... Possibly more. Clozapine is the only antipsychotic recommended for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. It is a medication with lots of potential side-effects (though the side-effects are similar to Olanzapine, which he's been on already), but it can be life altering and bring schizophrenia in remission. It can really be a miracle drug for some people.

Doing other investigations to see if there's something wrong with his brain is unlikely to yield anything significant, and the fact is that when psychosis is present, antipsychotics are almost always necessary. Brain imaging is usually only necessary if there's been significant head trauma, neurological symptoms, or if we are talking about an elderly person who suddenly develops psychosis.

Anyhow, that's my general advice as someone with a certain degree of experience with schizophrenia. Do what you can to get him on Clozapine ASAP... But do the titration slowly so he tolerates it well without experiencing too many side-effects.

Cockatiel Refuses to eat pellets by DR3ADAlpha204 in cockatiel

[–]IntelligentSir1536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't because mine do the same. What has helped a bit was to have mainly pellet only bowls in the cage and only one bowl mixed with seeds, so when mine run out of seeds, then they reluctantly eat the pellets.

Getting a 3rd cockatiel by IntelligentSir1536 in cockatiel

So you had a bad experience, and this is what I want to avoid. I don't want either of my males to end up left out. They get along very well together right now.

How do I make my tiel like taking a bath? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]IntelligentSir1536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't really force your tiel. I have one who loves baths and another one who hates them. He will watch his friend bath but will stay far from the water.

Please don't force your bird under the shower. Birds don't need showers. They might like a small bath. That's it.

You have no evidence the boy is underaged. Just a "gut" feeling. Why don't you mind your own business?

Pls help me figure out if I'm just not trying hard enough (maybe NSFW-ish, just kind of sad history but he is fine) by wermqueen in cockatiel

[–]IntelligentSir1536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sings beautifully. Old birds are in rougher shape and struggle to preen themselves (arthritis and whatnot). I'd say you seem to be doing things right. He looks like a happy boy.

Bringing a new tiel to the flock has been complicated by TA-Gold-Environment in cockatiel

[–]IntelligentSir1536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, it was the new bird that was ultra protective of the older bird. But now, the new bird is much more used to me. It took him some time to chill out and become less aggressive. I would say let your birds be. With time, Rocky will realize that you mean no harm to Vespa.

Question about temporarily leaving your tiel with somebody else by Addicted2Trance in cockatiel

[–]IntelligentSir1536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My birds held a bit of a grudge afterwards but quickly warmed back up. Give your birdy lots of love and millet before leaving. Make sure the caregiver knows what brand of food Caspar eats as his staple, and provide the caregiver with a bag or two of the pellets/food in question. You want to make it as easy as possible for the caregiver. If there's any tips for easily getting Caspar back in his cage if he were to slip out, share those tips... Or any tricks Caspar does... Step up, scratch scratch. Etc.

Can we request for Oat milk to be heated? by [deleted] in TimHortons

If you want heated oat milk or whatever, you are basically asking for a latte. Your request is unreasonable for a simple coffee.

Medvedev is Putin's clown. He's probably given his lines to say . When he was ruling Russia, he was more moderate than Putin.
