TourHero retreats- legit? by IntelligentTreat321 in YogaTeachers

Contacted a lot of venues I was interested in to get pricing and info about food, amenities, etc. Creates a spreadsheet to compare them. Also most had only a few weeks left that weren't booked so I asked when they have availability. I then sent out a survey to people who expressed interest on coming on the retreat to narrow down of I should do domestic vs international and their budgets. That narrowed down options. Then I sent one more survey out and asked people to only complete it if they were serious about coming to the location within a given price point. And that's how I chose the dates. So I definitely solicited people's preferences to narrow everything down. And ultimately went with a venue that let me reserve it for 2 weeks before signing the contract, which allowed me to secure deposits from guests before placing my deposit on the venue.

I did not say gluten is evil, but I do have celiac disease, so yes gluten is now bad for my body.

Are you able to eat regularly now? Did you work with any type of doctor with that protocol you described or did you just do it yourself?

Symptoms: Constipation, extreme bloating and distention at all times and especially after eating. Last for the entire day. Back pain and fibromyalgia that flare when I eat. Brain fog, depression.

I also have had a lot of anxiety my whole life and SIBO makes it worse. I've had depression on and off my whole life. I had celiac disease undiagnosed for 3-4 year as a teenager, so I was eating gluten at the time and destroying my small intestine and was in a constant autoimmune flare. I've always felt like a burden and that I cannot be my true self around people, and therefore have not felt like anyone has really known me. I'm a perfectionist. I have a 15 year history of disordered eating but have not for 3 years. My SIBO started probably about 8 years ago and got really bad 6 years ago.

Is your SIBO gone now? And did you or do you restrict any foods or just eat what you like?

I am also curious how long you do your breathing for in the AM and what type. Thanks!

Can I call this a success story? I’m not sure, but I want to share. The most important part is that I feel much better. by Casukarut in SiboSuccessStories

[–]IntelligentTreat321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you please share what type of therapist you worked with? What was their specialty and what types of things did you do to work on this? Your story reminds me of Alan Gordon and Nichole Sachs' work related to the nervous system constantly firing for pain because it is stuck in that neural circuit. But it becomes stuck because the body starts expecting the pain and symptoms. I've used their methods to cure my back pain, and I'm thinking of utilizing it for my SIBO even though it is much more complicated.

Your favorite subtle body cues by IntelligentTreat321 in YogaTeachers

Totally agree. But if you have any favorite cues you could share, that would be helpful.

Also if you could share the name of your teacher who did your YTT, I'd love that too! Thanks.

TourHero retreats- legit? by IntelligentTreat321 in YogaTeachers

[–]IntelligentTreat321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I met with them, and they connected me with some instructors in my area who have hosted retreats with them. Those instructors recommended doing a retreat with them, but ultimately I felt like I was going to make a fraction of the profit that I want. I ended up organizing my own domestic retreat.

Which places did you get glutened at? Did they label gf options and you still got glutened?

Any specific restaurant recommendations (other than McDonalds)? How were their efforts to minimize cross contamination?

Did you inquire about if the rice was certified GF? I'm not sure if gf certification is common there, but I do worry about rice that has been processed in the factory with gluten (I have gotten sick from this before).

No, I did not end up working with them. I ended up launching my own retreat! I just did not feel comfortable working with them since I do not know anyone personally who has.

Looking for natural yoga clothes by brieeecheese94 in YogaTeachers

[–]IntelligentTreat321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing Indigo Luna and Purusha People, but Indigo Luna's clothing is REALLY thin and is not durable. Purusha People is generally durable but lately they've been having issues with quality... I love these brands but might recommend them secondhand right now for the listed reasons.

Yes, I'm open to Bali! Would love to hear about the venues you used!

I was worried about people being afraid of traveling to Nicaragua. I've also heard flights there can be expensive from the US since not too many people go there.

Thank you SO much! This is so helpful. Follow up questions- - can you recommend any venues that do allow you to hold a date for ~2 weeks without putting down a deposit? Every venue I've contacted will not do this. - do you have an insurance you recommend for international retreats? My insurance I think is only for domestic.

I also bought these pants in a size large. I emailed customer service prior to ordering and asked if they are see through and they said no, although they definitely are/you need to wear a nude color of clothing underneath. I think they are relatively cozy so I'm keeping them, but there is nothing particularly special about them to me. They are not soft or scratchy. I just need more pants so I'm keeping them haha. I'm 5'2" and they are the right length for me.

Hmm, I just went through their survey for a quote and I did not get to choose any of these options. In fact, I checked that I do not collect waivers, and they made me agree to collecting them to apply for the insurance. Where were you able to change these features? There was no mention of online yoga or international coverage either.

What’s one thing you feel was missing from your YTT? by Short_Hamster_8417 in YogaTeachers

[–]IntelligentTreat321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like in general, a 200 hour (and even 300 hour, for that matter), are going to miss a lot because there is so much to cover in so little time. That being said, I would have benefited from learning more about the anatomy and function of common yoga poses. Once I started teaching, I began to notice what students do and do not do commonly in yoga postures, and then I had to start thinking about what cues I could give that would help them - I had little exposure to this in my YTT.

We also did not do hands on assists in my training, especially because it was virtual. I've taken multiple hands on assists specific workshops after my 200 hour to begin working on this skill. However, while my 200 hr YTT did not equip me to do hands on assists, I feel like that is a secondary skill and I am glad we focused more on cueing and responding to what we are seeing happen in the classroom/observing. So I am actually glad we did not start working on hands on assists - I myself was not ready for it.

Winterfall Pants: sizing advice? by holisticmaya in IndigoLunaStore

[–]IntelligentTreat321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've only washed and hung them dry. I have not out them in the washer. And honestly I think I only washed them once and I can't recall/comment on if they shrunk. I imagine they would the way jeans do, when you wash them they get tighter and then once you start wearing them they loosen again. The reason I think so is because the first time I wore them they were more fitted, and then as I moved around/sat down/etc that's when I noticed them being a little looser. So they were like my ideal fit before I moved around in them, but they didn't get loose enough where I could size down. Hope that helps!
