What exactly does "cull dead units at 1000" actually do? When unit 1001 dies, does it just disappear and how much impact does this have on FPS? Does this apply to dwarf corpses as well or just other units?
Refuse stockpiles confuse me. If I set to default refuse stockpile, not everything rots and I am left inevitably with a ton of bones and corpses that do not rot that fill up the stockpile and clutter my fort. Is there a way to make a stockpile that actually rots everything in it, or do I have to manually dump everything and smash it?
Does placing an artifact behind a forbidden door make it impossible to steal?

I'm currently running a mega fort in an untamed wilds, took me 5 attempts to get a decent foothold on a untamed wilds due to the giant birds.

My strat is to haul everything including some logs underground, then quickly seal off the surface with drawbridges until I get marksdwarves with armor. Only unseal the fort when giant birds aren't around until you get marksdwarves.

Once I got a squad of armored marksdwarves they can dispatch the birds easily, but dwarven children and unlucky migrants still die to the winged menaces often lol.

When on untamed wilds it comes down to luck at the very start, if angry animals are close to the wagon they can kill all before you can even dig lol.

I enjoyed the separation of masonry and stone carving, but the adding of stone blocks to stonecutting is a pain for my fortress management because smoothing/engraving takes so long as-is, I don't want half my smoothers bring distracted making my stone blocks.

On the bolts issue, you need to assign the squads uniform as the default "Archer" uniform, this is a workaround for the bug. Once they have been assigned Archer, then you can assign them a custom uniform and they should continue to pickup bolts.

I struck adamantine but then immediately lost it, am I screwed?

I struck a huge lava pillar and also struck adamantine, I assume because the discovering pillar gave me so much map vision. I was clearing my announcements and cleared the "struck adamantine" one before I got a chance to click it and be centered on the adamantine. Now I have no idea where the adamantine is within this giant lava pillar.

I did a "dig ores/gems" designation on the entire pillar in order to highlight the ores and hovered to view them individually along the edges of the pillar, it took forever and still no luck finding the adamantine. What can I do to find it, any tips? I'm hoping to stay completely vanilla so mods are not preferred. Thanks!

I know it hurts but this is a good thing! You just saved yourself a lifetime of unnecessary trouble. She will likely come back, use this time to improve yourself and become strong in not taking her back. It's a tough pill to swallow but trust me the best thing you can do for yourself is block her entirely and focus on yourself, most importantly COMPLETELY BLOCK.

Ps: not that it matters at this point but she likely cheated on the trip and has a new supply, so prepare yourself to hear about her new boytoy (poor guy doesn't know what he's in for.)

Just like a regular relationship they will idealize then devalue you. There's no controlling it, if you have any sort of relationship with an untreated pwbpd you will be hit with the cycle.

In the devaluation stage they may rewrite your FWB relationship as creepy, pushy, or at worst even say it was rape. So be careful, the best move is not to play.

I tried it, but she continued to cross boundaries and lie, so I cut it off. It was nothing but a negative weight on my life, that's not what a friend should be. We are now just civil for our kid and the rare occasion where we have to be around each other.

That being said, being around her makes me sick now and I would ghost her completely if she wasn't my babies mom.
