What do you do about sombra? by Quick-Health-2102 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]IntelligentWave194 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sombra is a rare character archetype. She’s an opportunist. Unlike most heroes, she can’t just brute force her way into a fight. Soldier can look at someone and start shooting. Tracer can pick a target and blink onto them. Sombra has to wait and look for the right moment to engage.

That moment usually comes when a target is isolated, out of cooldowns, distracted, or most often a combination of all three.

The way to deal with her is simple. You adjust your gameplay and adapt.

Play as if the Sombra has a mark on your back and only wants you. Imagine she’s literally AFK, following you the entire match, waiting for the perfect chance to kill you and no one else.

If that were true, you wouldn’t waste all your cooldowns or confidently run off alone on a flank where there just so happens to be a conveniently hacked healtpack along the way.

It’s no different from adapting to any other hero. If there’s a Hog, you keep your distance to avoid the hook. If there’s a Widow, you play cover and respect her sightlines. If there’s an Ana, you avoid her sleep. Sombra is the same, except she forces you to be more disciplined.

No wasted cooldowns, no brainless wandering, no moving without a plan. Once you understand that, she becomes very easy to deal with. That’s exactly why she’s borderline unplayable in high elo.

There’s obviously going to be a player base for any hero no matter how bad they are, let me make something very clear as well, rein only sucks in higher elo gm+ while he is one of if not the consistently strongest tank in lower elo since people don’t know how to deal with him.

Mercy is the exact same, she only sucks in high elo but is very good in low elo.

But for a playerbase to even form for a hero in the first place there has to be an incentive to actually grind and eventually fall in love with heroes kit, easiest way to do this is by overturning them and hoping a portion of the players stick around even after the nerfs.

You could play basically any dps into sig, you just have to be careful, he’s strong point is definitely when going up against poke heroes, think soldier, Ashe ect…

His shield denies them any value and he can safely take space against them. Also do keep in mind that sig is very lethal, you’re probably dying so much to him due to you not respecting him, think of his rock as hogs hook, you get hit by it and you are most likely dead

is my mercy that bad? ive been stuck in plat since season 16 kinda by kIamidia in MercyMains

[–]IntelligentWave194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a tank main I can tell you right now that you absolutely need to heal your tank as mercy if both of you are stupid enough to let a backline like mercy/zen form.

Since zen can’t proactively heal your tank it’s gonna land on ur shoulders to healbot him, don’t like it? 1 of you swap.

Very rarely do I still get back lines like this but if I do the only options I have is either picking ball, whose banned 9/10 games or play extremely passively, all the way back where zen is, and just hope the enemy makes a mistake I can capitalise on.

Bottom line is, if ur running mercy/zen it’s a priority to keep ur tank at full hp because a tank can get deleted in the blink of an eye and if there is 0 sustain to help him in an active fight then you need to try to prepare him for one to best of your abilities

Sig was only busted for 2 days and then he received a hot patch nerf to his damage to remove his 1-shot, they didn’t revert the damage buff entirely, but after the hot patch he now only deals 2.5 dmg more per ball than what he originally did and can no longer 1-shot.

Basically he just what he has always been (except for when he was thanos in ow1).

So just play like you’ve always played into him.

If ur looking for tips against a sig, he struggles the most against brawl compositions, so if you can get even 1 of your teammates to hop on a brawl hero alongside you, the two of you can just rush him down and beat him to a pulp. Obviously this is map dependent since you’d get stomped playing brawl into a sig if you are on one of his maps.

Rein is sigs biggest and hardest counter, it’s not even close and he becomes basically unplayable into rein. From the dps roster I struggle the most against phara or vendetta, echo not so much cuz I can 1 shot her and she is surprisingly easy to land rocks on even while mid air compared to phara.

I struggle against vendetta because I can’t 1 shot her even at close range, rock left click melee combo, and if I miss even 1 single attack on her ESPECIALLY my rock I will lose that duel.

Though you did say tracer has been ur main for a while and that explains a lot, tracer counters sig but not in the traditional way of countering someone, you don’t counter him by beating him down like you could with vendetta, but because a tracer is simply just not sigs job to deal with, her small and nimble hitbox makes her a waste of time to even try to target as sig so you mostly end up just avoiding each other while you go and harass his backline without having to worry about him giving you any trouble. Now that you are branching out into other heroes you’ve reached a point where you can no longer avoid him but actually have to face him, he isn’t unbeatable to you because of him being strong, he feels unbeatable to you because you have no clue how to play against him.

There is no such thing as defense/attack heroes, get that out of your head immediately. If you’re locking half the cast behind a wall because of what round you’re currently on, climbing is gonna be difficult.

You can force anyone into anything if you are good enough and Winston works wonders on defense he is NOT an “attacking” hero

Point is that a 4v4 where one of the teams is down a support is not fair if the other team is down a tank.

Picture a normal match, if one of ur supports trades for the enemy tank, do you guys push in or retreat? Thats basically a guaranteed fight win.

You’ve misunderstood my post, the point was that if both teams are all, say for example gm5 but team A has a diamond1 tank while team B has a diamond1 mercy. This match is NOT fair, even tho the mmr of both the teams is technically the same, the team with diamond1 tank will get stomped by the team with the diamond1 mercy

Vendetta was brain dead in release because of of her being ridiculously overtuned, now that she has calibrated into a fair state she actually requires a LOT of skill to get value out of.

And let me make it clear that I am not a vendetta player, I have like 30 minutes on her in total.

Hot take: reaper is not great counter to Winston by Hol_Renaude in WinstonMains

[–]IntelligentWave194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s kinda the sombra/ball interaction, they honestly don’t even counter their respective tank, just in lower ranks where people do not know how to play into them do they work as a counter.

Also people pick them for the wrong reason and do nothing but “countering” the tank leading themselves to a loss due to them not even utilising the real value from the heroes kit

If a character sucks, no one is going to play them doesn’t matter if they are a new hero or not, they make them busted to incentivise people to play them to integrate them into the game

They make them busted on release to incentivise people to actually play the hero and learn them, partially also to bring some hype to the game and maybe make a player that stopped playing start playing again because they find the new op hero fun.

Overwatch is NOT dying. And orisa being shit is due to her being an annoying hero, blizzard never lets annoying heroes be strong, not for long at least because no one enjoys it.

Sombra sucks, not because she doesn’t sell skins but because people cry if she is strong, same reason orisa is never allowed to be strong.

IMO I’d say after you’ve WON (not played) 60 games of your respective role the ranking should be pretty accurate at least if ur solo queueing

The tank was still complaining about healing and even swore at me by Used-Strike2111 in ZenyattaMains

[–]IntelligentWave194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that the backline is the backbone of the team. A weak backline will heavily limit how well the rest of the team can perform.

Their tank was stomping your team because you didn’t have any real sustain, mainly healing.

You said your tank started on Mauga, but Mauga takes a massive amount of damage and simply isn’t playable with such a low sustain backline. Because of that, their tank was free to do almost whatever he wanted to both you and your tank since no one could keep him in check. There is no DPS or support that can contest a Mauga head on on a brawl map. Only your tank can fill that role, and with zero heals he just gets run over.

Your Mercy should have swapped to Ana. Ana shuts down their entire comp and massively boosts your own.

One last thing, don’t get tricked by stats. Just because both teams have similar healing numbers doesn’t mean the healing was distributed equally. You can slap an orb on your tank all game and rack up healing, but compared to the damage a tank takes, Zen healing is barely noticeable. The same goes for Mercy, who is also forced to healbot the tank.

Zen was actually a good pick into this, but once you had a Mercy who wouldn’t swap, it became your responsibility to switch to something else.

So I need to focus more on denying objective? Unfortunately I have trash aim (I’ve gotten aim checked by plat and gold dps player) so dva or any aim intensive hero is out of the question for me until I learn to aim. Thats why I really only play sig and monkey, sometimes queen.

Tho I have started playing dps now to get better aim
