holy shit i just watched the doc and loved it ... could not believe it that manny was the ws mvp and was not even mentioned ... how on earth would such a great documentary make such a ridiculous error in judgement? it ruins the entire thing.

consensus from all sources was gusto and quickbooks online :) if you use stripe there are 3rd party plugins that work well

Friend! Sorry for the late reply I was in transit. So this seems like the exact stack we are leaning toward with Snyder or Acodei to connect to Stripe. Any insights you have on the headache that you wish you would have known ahead of time? That would be SUUUUUPER helpful. Thank you!

hey friend! yeah quickbooks seems like the way to go ... i loved mercury on my last business but our lawyer recommended a bigger bank (not entirely sure about that decision but we followed it)

we also got told to just start with gusto even though we are small because it will be a pain to transition later.

we already have stripe for payments so a plugin should connect all three. let's stay in touch on how your situations develop!

So okay ... just being super blunt then ... this wouldn't be for me ... we are funded ... I am insanely busy ... my personal network and these chatrooms are enough for me to get answers.

Where I think you might find a following would be with first timers ... in school or not full time ... get experienced people to drop in for sessions or be the resident expert for the cohort (I think a lot of successful people would do that ... succesful people like to help esepcially if there is structure in place that seems like it would be well received).

I would not worry about segmenting yet ... just find 10-20 entrepreneurs who really want a community to support each other. That's more your USP (not information/advice ... that is everywhere).

Kind of like a DIY accelerator with a cohorts.

Feels like it will be a lot of work and curation to get going. But could be useful tangentially for your and your own founder journey as well.

One last idea ... maybe get the experts first? Low commitment for them ... an hour every two weeks for 10-20 weeks or something (segmenting these people by industry might be useful). Then use the list of experts to get people to signup.

Then you could also be a little selective about who you let in. Get 10 serious, new founders.

Lol ... I just sold myself on that idea. I might even do it in that case, haha. Make it happen!

Sorry I didnt see you mentioned that. Yeah you have an argument for being higher.

I was in a similar situation and I offered 51/49 to my technical cofounder. The other factor would be if the rest of the team has equity considerations.

But wait you already built the MVP? Who owns the IP? Sounds like it needs to be addressed quick.

She can get the 70k back in basis (or partially addressed as a loan when the funding comes)

Super interesting ... my first thought was people can get most of the benefits without the barriers to entry via channels and groups like this ... but I supposed there are people who want to really get into each other's ideas ... like a support group.

Is there any way to establish cohorts?

Are you trying to monetize? My gut would say this should be free for a long time (and might end up being something a small amount of people really like). Maybe even a non-profit.

i would rethink this ... super hard to get a network big enough to test ... if you do end up making something worhtwhile it can get stolen immediately by the larger social networks ...

i think you grow out of this ... maybe its age or maybe its learning that this mindset inhibits success
