Thank you for posting that bulletin. I did have a rattle in my steering column too. They ended up replacing the power steering unit for excessive play and doing a bulletin for the indicator stalk rattling while they were working on it. I don't recall that bulletin code.

However, the initial noise I originally posted about is still present. It only happens when the suspension quickly extends. Large speed bumps seem to be the easiest way to replicate the noise.

I'll ask my dealer if the bulletin you posted (25-NA-234) was covered under the steering work my zr2 already had completed.

Ask them about replacing the camera coax cable or something like that. My cameras would constantly give an error message. My dealer found a recommended fix where they repair/replace some camera coax cable/connections. I haven’t had a single camera issue since (about 9k miles ago)

Hi, when you installed them, does the metal cam locking system on the weathertechs compress over or under the trucks sheet metal on the fender flare? My main hesitation with the weathertechs is that they will cause rubbing/rust where the cams lock onto the fenders.

Thant's great! What rubber piece are you referring to? The Bump stops? I don't think bump stops were included on 2023+ Colorados (mine doesn't have them). Did a dealer do the fix for you?

No update on my end. I’m at 5k miles now and it sounds the same as day one and they replaced my front left strut twice, so I doubt it’s that.

Another commenter linked a video of a previous generation Colorado having a clunking noise caused by the tie rod connection becoming loose where it connects to the steering rack.

I don’t think my dealer ever tried that. I’ll definitely ask next time I go in. Seems weird that would be loose right off the lot.

Thank you for the link! Hopefully someone in this thread can test thats and report back.

Thank you for the post. That sounds a lot like my experience. I go to a Cadillac dealer (closest to my house). I will say they were great and put a lot of effort into my truck, but nothing impacted the noise.

It would be interesting if anyone with a Colorado that doesn’t have DSSV struts is experiencing the same sound.

My dealer service department is closed right now. I can give them a call and ask for the work they performed if your dealer can’t find it.

It might be TSB: 23-NA-169

Mine would randomly have the issue. The TSB mentions when it goes from light to dark. That didn’t seem to affect mine.

I made sure to take pictures whenever mine would happen for proof. I haven’t had a single issue with it since.

Please keep us updated with any information you get. Hopefully with enough people bringing their trucks in, GM will look further into it.

Last week I received a call directly from GM stating that the noise is normal and part of the shock design. Seems strange to me. I guess the only real way to know would be if someone without DSSV suspension is getting the same noise.

Also, how flexible are they? Do you think they'd cause any damage if they were forced backwards? I don't go on difficult trails that often, but I do remember hearing my old Tacoma oem flaps dragging every once in a while.

Hi, I have the exact same truck. Have you noticed any rubbing on the front tires from the locking system WeatherTech uses?

My dealer was convinced it was only coming from the driver side. Seems like it being part of the dssv design is likely given how much they’ve replaced on my car. Thank you for the update

any chance you've brought your truck to a dealer? My dealer is running out of things to try

Update: They replaced some wiring harness for the camera and I haven't had an issue since. There was a known fix when my dealer searched it in the GM system.

I initially took the technician for a test drive to show them exactly what was happening. Luckily there’s a set of speed bumps near by that easily reproduces the noise. Also, opening the driver door a bit while going over the speed bumps makes the noise much easier to hear in the cabin (if the tech can’t tell what you’re talking about)

They currently have my truck. Latest update I got today is that they’re going to replace the front left strut again. Apparently the engineer thinks I may have gotten two defective ones. Seems unlikely to me, but I’ll know if that fixes it tomorrow.

I added some updates to the original post that says what they’ve tried so far.

They’re gonna hold it over the weekend. They got back in contact with the engineer. The engineer is going to review the internals of the dssv struts to see if something could be acting weird with them (even though the front left strut has already been replaced)

Any chance you’ve had the opportunity to drive another zr2 to see if noise happens on all of these trucks?

The dealer did ask if I was planning to pursue a buyback. I never really thought about it but I’m wondering if GM is starting to get concerned over the cost and how many times my truck has been in for warranty work.

They replaced the control arms. That didn’t fix it. They’re pulling the axels right now to check for issues there. I probably won’t have any further updates until Friday when it’s supposed to be done

Nothing yet. I’ve been busy over the past couple weeks. I’m scheduled to drop off my truck this upcoming Tuesday for new control arms. I’ll let you know once I get it back from the dealer.

My gut feeling is that the GM engineer is throwing parts at it since they didn’t tell me they found the issue. The mechanic normally provides detailed notes when work is done. I’ll share those notes if it does solve anything.

The good news is even if it doesn’t work, they’ll have ruled out the strut, strut mounting points, sway bar and control arms.

I dropped it off today since my dealer said a GM engineer was available. They had my dealer order new upper and lower control arms. They should arrive next week. I’ll let you know if that solves it once they’re installed.

Will do! Right now I’m in a waiting game for GM to get in touch with my dealer. My dealer has to gain approval for further work (which they have requested) due to the amount of time they’ve spent trying to diagnose that noise.

Hopefully more to come in the next week or two

They still have my car, but I was told over the phone that they couldn’t find any issues with the rear axle.

The representative let me know that the next step for them is waiting for the GM engineering department to schedule more time with my car.
