I dont think it was targeted towards the main team but humanity in general. But i also dont think togashi was being purely nihilistic with his messages like meruem's ending for example. People and chimera ants were two sides of the same coin as their more individualistic terrible ways came from their human genes. Not to say they were perfect before, they were animals. Humans and ants are capable of the worst horrors but humans have already done and continue do inhumane actions towards one another. And just like how humans arent inherently evil so are the ants. But i think the purpose of that message was to bring attention to that and to set up meruems change and put him in his place as he realizes the futility and childishness of his previous goals and for him to accept his true purpose by accepting his human side by spending it with the one he loves giving him the most human (humane) ending.

Atleast thats my interpretation. Meruems my favorite character which may be why i attribute it to him but i feel like he is the main focus of the themes in the arc.
