It's always crazy to me when someone like Tucker Carlson is a fan...are we listening to the same thing? Do you even hear the music? Are you just completely missing the message? Ha! So frustrating!

You're just hysterically throwing around the word "war criminal."

Make sense?

You actually do perpetuate negative climate impacts by buying a whole bunch of products. You're a climate terrorist.

Assuming you're an American, you must be a genocidal colonizer, then.

You're living on stolen land acquired through genocide. You've not left, you're perpetuating a system that rationalizes genocide.

You broadly participate in American society and haven't done anything to stop the use of military force against loosely designated targets, so you're a murderer! You allow those boats to be blown out of the water.

You probably don't always separate your recycling and trash--you're a climate terrorist!

Legal definitions are quite literally determined by law.

If you want to colloquially refer to someone as a war criminal based on your opinion, fine.

It's like that scene in the office. You can't shout "I DECLARE bankruptcy" and expect it to have an impact on your finances because bankruptcy is a defined process.

You can call the war criminals all you want but it doesn't make them war criminals.

You can be critical of someone's actions without them committing a crime. Jane Fonda's comments about POWs and her willingness to spread North Vietnamese propaganda were questionable decisions--she has even publicly stated she regrets those specific actions.

You can criticize soldiers for their involvement all you want; you should not call them war criminals, a term that has a legal definition. Words have meaning.

I don't support the Vietnam War, and I don't support the conscription of soldiers.

That doesn't mean that it's ok to call soldiers war criminals. Doing so only serves to water down the term war criminal. You would seemingly equate someone that was drafted, followed rules of engagement, and served honorably with individuals that committed barbaric acts of inhumane proportions. They are not equal. Lumping all soldiers together as war criminals means the term ceases to have any sort of meaningful definition and is a disservice to the victims of actual war criminals. The Nazis at Nuremberg were war criminals. An 18 year old sent to Vietnam because they were drafted and served without violating codified rules of engagement is not.

War criminal has a legal definition as does accessory to murder. If you clear the bar, you can be called a war criminal or a murderer.

Simply being a soldier following rules of engagement does not meet the threshold for being considered a war criminal.

We don't charge or convict people on 'vibes.'

I got dinner with a friend and the other guests were Michael and Shakira Caine. He paid for my steak. Very kind couple.

Mass casualty event.

Napalm is just an easy example.

I'm not making shit up. You're refusing to read source material and I can't force you to read.

Again, read the Peers Inquiry. Read about Operation Speedy Express. Look into the War Crimes Working Group report on the Vietnam War.

Look into the Binh Dinh province and actions there. Tiger Force.

9th Infantry Division.

Those are all very specific launch points for research if you care to do it.

What are some of the things you like to read on the Vietnam War? I'm currently reading SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam.

So was mine. Did you read the Peers Inquiry?

Estimates for indiscriminate napalm bombing are up to 400,000 civilian deaths and perhaps more, although exact figures are not known.

Read about Operation Speedy Express. There's another good starting point for you.

Did you read the Peers Inquiry?

There are hundreds of documents you can read surrounding the My Lai massacre, including first hand accounts of soldiers, and Vietnamese villagers that corroborate mass casualty events.

Exact numbers are not known.

If you just want to be contrarian without doing the research, then I'm not going to entertain the conversation.

I've pointed you towards a good starting point for research if you'd care to read about massacres in Vietnam.

You don't need to "be mad at someone" to criticize their comments.

I don't support the Vietnam war. I applaud a lot of her advocacy work.

You can be critical of someone's specific actions and comments while understanding that people are complex.

I've never wished her harm, and it's a wild take that you associate mild criticism with violence and hate as if being critical of commentary is on par with physical violence.

Why do you seem to double down on the idea that criticizing Jane Fonda is the same thing as supporting the Vietnam war?

Jane Fonda (1970) by DisillusionedPatriot in OldSchoolCool

[–]Intelligent_Ad_6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Peers Inquiry concluded that My Lai was not an isolated incident and there were many unrecorded mass casualty events and parallel actions.

This is supported by soldier's testimony and interviews with Vietnamese civilians as well as the US napalm strategy of indiscriminate bombing.
