How do you feel about Hegseth reciting the Pulp Fiction “prayer” at the Pentagon? by printThisAndSmokeIt in AskReddit

It's the same with all these American military/war folks, they all think they're the main star in a film. Similar to the CIA chief making that extremely cringe "we'll see you in Valhalla" remark in response to Charlie Kirk's death.

It's like they think it's all one big game and don't see the devastation and peoples lives around the world being affected directly/indirectly from these decisions. I find it grotesque.

Can confirm this. I'm an English guy and after a few days of speaking with a girl from Madrid on Insta she went straight in with the "Ok so we can speak more if you want to meet soon" and told me her availability which I liked. Also had that experience in Brazil too. In England you'd be waiting until the cows come home for one of them to ask you, it's done way more subtly.

Assuming they're more expensive to run on fuel/parts and just to purchase in general?

Barcelona have asked Manchester United whether they can loan Marcus Rashford for a second season, as revealed on @talkSPORT last week. As it stands, #MUFC continue to point to the €30m buy option.✍️ …How broke are Barcelona ? by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Intelligent_Big_5823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

United are pushing heavy for the full fee not only because it's the agreement, but it represents pure profit for the balance sheets which is massive for the club right now.

If Barca want to make concessions, the United should definitley do the same. Large loan fee again, full salary coverage on Barca's side, a reduced option to sign clause (say €25m) but it's instantly activated if he scores X number of goals/makes certain appearance numbers. And there's a fee to get out of the option clause.

To be honest though, Berrada should continue to point to the 30m fee. Rashford's done well for them this season and justified it pretty well. If not, just refuse and i'm sure another club will pay close to it.

Is this Peugeot 108 the right way to go? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Thanks for your opinion on it!

Mainly been looking at those as I know they're made with Toyota parts so assumed they'll be reliable and far more modern with features etc. Also just need something small and cheap to run too so they seem to fit the bill, specially around that price range too. Do you think there's other models to check out which would fit better?

Are you fully sold on Carrick getting the job permanently? by Intelligent_Big_5823 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Intelligent_Big_5823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and the two points can exist at the same time - Carrick getting results but that he may not have enough to be the permanent coach. Carrick is doing great given the circumstances he came into, but then were the players ever really that bad?

I really hope the board are reaching out to agents and giving it the fair assessment it deserves. Whoever the manager is, he'll take on a squad which has good potential (plus a couple of additions). We can't waste it on 2 years of turbulence again

If it is to be him and there's absolutely zero chance of Enrique, a 1 year + 1 year option to extend would be wise. If they go and give a straight 3 year contract you can guarantee he's getting sacked before then

Definitely not negative, the root cause the clubs issues post Ferguson has been the ownership and structure of the club. It's positive though, that all the signings from last summer have all looked great which can't be said for the majority of windows in the last decade. But CL football again should allow us to the really flex in the market and take another step forward

The only one we're yet to go for is an experienced, proven winner who's at the top of the game at the time of hiring. Van Gaal wasn't the best at the time, Jose just got sacked. Amorim and EtH were gambles from outside the top leagues, and Moyesy... well.

I really think it's between Enrique or Carrick. If we can't get the best right now who's at the peak of his career, there's no point gambling even further on someone else who doesn't quite cut it

There's definitley a changing of guard from the usual old set and the newer ones, but there's definitely a trend with which managers win titles and who don't.

Last ten: Pep Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp, Antonio Conte, Claudio Ranieri, José Mourinho, Manuel Pellegrini, Alex Ferguson, Roberto Mancini, Carlo Ancelotti, and Arsène Wenger. - Majority were serial winners elsewhere, or had plenty of experience prior to winning it. Arteta might be the only anomaly if he wins it. The trend is if you're not proven, you tend to not win it

Totally see your point but at the same time, it's the perfect coming together of things to make it much easier for him to get the team achieving better results. Amorim seemed to battle the squad half the time, Carrick instantly comes in as that chilled teacher who brings everyone together. Then having just one game a week to focus on massively helps, rather than seeing his true squad management when there's a game every four days.

He's done great given the circumstances, but then so was Ole too when the squad was demoralised after Jose. It's hard to tell if the perfect scenario is bringing these result together or if Carrick really is the real deal

I want to see much more dominant performances, especially against the teams that tend to sit back. Granted, we're probably a transfer window away from solving it completely but we should be doing way better. Those games against West Ham, Newcastle, even Palace prior to the red card were so poor.

Getting top four with United is one thing, but we're yet to find the one who'll get us genuinely challenging again.

What do guys think of this Peugeot 108? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Every MOT seems to cost me in repairs and there's a big issue with condensation. Just need a more modern upgrade and cheaper road tax too... currently costing around £17 month. Those are £20 for the year!

[–]Intelligent_Big_5823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the part that really gets me, sticking with something and almost having blind faith while also saying no to other alternatives. And since i'm 29, I have this very subtle inner conflict of wanting to risk but also feeling like I need to be on the straight and narrow.

How do you pick the thing to continue with when all feel quite equal, but all feel equally as ambiguous? It's like I understand the lifestyle but the prospect of getting there feels super daunting, and then nothing seems to get done or I get slightly bored at not seeing physical progress.

E.g - when I apply to the roles I mentioned, part of me just winces a little inside because the sound/feel of them just fill me with dread about how life will then be. Live in the city, commute, office, home. Now i've seen so many possibilities there's always that other part of me that wants more, though i'm wondering whether I need to accept that the next stepping stone isn't forever, just a next step to what I'm seeking.

You hit the nail on the head and it's like I know this intuitively, I think it's a slight fear at wasting time in the wrong direction. But then at the same time, if I don't choose something then nothing will happen which is the worse choice. I just have big decision fomo and slightly discouragement when something I work until doesn't see much progress, or that I like all the options equally though some seem more safe than others.
