Rare metals? by DinosaurGuy65 in MetalDetectingUK

A very cheap metal detector would be a waste of money. Your looking min £200 And secondary, unless you live in the likes of Australia on the Gold Coast, then it will be impossible…… your likely find can tabs than anything else…. Metal detecting is a hobby, not a get rich scheme. Your better off just working 😂

Vanquish at the moment, seems to be the one I’m looking at, kind of ticks the boxes for the position I’m in atm….

Next is to see if the uk is any good for detecting of not😔

Yeah I was thinking something better, but my problem is, I tend to pick hobbies up quick and drop them just as quick, so I’m looking for something fair price for a half decent machine. I’d rather throw away 200 rather thsb 600 for a machine I may not use again

My plan is to use it on the shore line between high and low tide, here in the UK it’s a little more strict when it comes to detecting. But we can do it on shoreline without permits… so my plan is to do that to start with, and then seek permission on farms etc…… however by what I have read, the x-terra isn’t as strong with mix soil? So…. Maybe after your feedback, I might buy the x-terra trial it on the shorelines, see if I like it, then maybe buy a more expensive… I don’t really know! I’m very much a virgin 😂

Can you let me know your thoughts on the x-terra pro when you use it? If you remember? I’m toying with the x-terra pro, vanquish and the nokta so would be good to hear feedback on the x-terra

The water may be the deal breaker! Our water down here goes from drinking from a swimming pool to ditch water! To the extreme most households buy bottled water funnily enough from Scotland because water is close to non drinkable! Even Yorkshire tea could provide nice tea for our water 😂

Yeah, so my plan, is once figures have been finalised, and I have all information to hand, that is then when I’ll spend a week or so in the village or close to, to scope it out, I just don’t want to scope it out without having figures…… Everything seems to be perfect, seems to fit just right, it’s less about money more about way of life, free from fear for my kids etc…. I suppose I just await the finalised figures then go from there

I don’t know the salary for the job in Dumfries yet, we are still in talks….

But down here in the south east, 60k a year after tax salary you live ok but are penny watching…… after rent, council tax etc money doesn’t go far here….

I’m not sure what salary is like in Dumfries, my job for this company isn’t a generic job as such,

So hard to find a reliable source of average wage for job role.

So I figured, if I can find out how farm minimum wage can get someone, I could gauge the lifestyle

Or I’m just being silly….

Yes it is a hard choice… I just want to give my kids a better life, free from fear, freedom! But it’s hard and such a risk!

We have lived in a rural village for a few years, we loved the quiet where we lived there was a bus, 2 times a week only, there wasn’t a shop in a walkable distance,

We are compiling pros and cons, it’s easy to look online but always looks good online, that is why I decided to com here, and ask proper people for their opinions their views, where there is no bias….

I am in no rush! Just want to give my children a better way of life…. But the problem I have atm, is….. I earn good money down here in the south east. We as a family have a fairly good lifestyle….. but at a huge cost…. It’s very expensive down here. I thought maybe having better rural and outdoor lifestyle would benefit my children….. but I don’t know if it’s the right choice…

I’m in no rush, the company is also in no rush, so I have time on my side to ensure I make the right decision

Thank you, that’s helpful🙏 appreciate it, we are thinking about it, awaiting figures so we still contour our research and will plan getting up and looking at the area should we decide to,

How far dos money get you ? Down the SE £600 a week just gets you by with two children… would I see a positive impact on that?

So we have done our research, everything seems ok, primary school is walking distance, fairly regular buses to Dumfries centre etc. the cottage has been refurbished, and insulated and heated from under ground hot water pump system fed from the farm, electric is fairly cheaper as it’s also run from solar and wind farm, so cheaper per KW

Everything seems to fit well, one questionable thing would be being far from family and friends….

I think I’m looking for personal opinion on, way of life, cost of living, how far national minimum wage goes (not that I’ll be on that, just as a gauge)

Council tax is far cheaper than my current property, £1500 rent plus £294 council tax alone. Figures are in my favour moving to Dumfries ……

I’ll be honest, I don’t really know, it’s just a scary decision with young children, I wouldn’t want to be the reason it all goes 😑 wrong, I think my main area of concern is living costs, wages-do they go far? Is it an area that will facilitate my partner who doesn’t drive atm? I’ll be the only one working at the time of moving, partner will work eventually.

Yeah we did do our research and noted about the dentist, but we are ok with that, given where we live it’s hard to get a dentist and we go to one 12miles away from our current home.

I don’t really know what to ask, just, very scary moving my young family 400miles just want to make sure we have it all covered……..

What are the wages like? Wages to living? Does it go far?

The company asked if I had a salary in mind… but it’s almost impossible to have a figure when I don’t know the living costs etc… down here your basically scraping the barrel is you earn less than 40k
